With the GFX940 patches in full swing since first week of March, it is looking like MI300 is not far in the distant future!
Usually AMD takes around 3Qs to get the support in LLVM and amdgpu. Lately, since RDNA2 the window they push to add support for new devices is much reduced to prevent leaks.
But looking at the flurry of code in LLVM, it is a lot of commits. Maybe because US Govt is starting to prepare the SW environment for El Capitan (Maybe to avoid slow bring up situation like Frontier for example)

See here for the GFX940 specific commits
Or Phoronix

There is a lot more if you know whom to follow in LLVM review chains (before getting merged to github), but I am not going to link AMD employees.

I am starting to think MI300 will launch around the same time like Hopper probably only a couple of months later!
Although I believe Hopper had problems not having a host CPU capable of doing PCIe 5 in the very near future therefore it might have gotten pushed back a bit until SPR and Genoa arrives later in 2022.
If PVC slips again I believe MI300 could launch before it

This is nuts, MI100/200/300 cadence is impressive.

Either they have some kind of clever plan or they have absolutely no clue what they are doing.

The only people freaking out about this are extreme tech nerds that check the internet many times a day, for an info fix.

Normal people don't remotely care that a GPU presentation was moved a couple of weeks. Given the fact that cards are arriving at retailers, it doesn't even appear this will impact deliveries, it's just a slip in the presentation, which normal people weren't going to watch anyway.

Well, they want attention. And breaking NDA is probably less costly to them than that.

That still indicates that product is on shelves. Good news is that the availability might be better on launch day due to this. But why is this launch so butt-backwards?

Prices are most probably still in flux. AMD could have already been selling stuff but decided to wait for NV most probably.

I know GPU launches are weird, but I think AMD wants to take the Launch Weirdness World Record.

We are probably all tech nerds here, but the over-reactions to a postponed presentation are getting more than a little silly, and it's important to recognize when something that may seem important to this fringe, is basically irrelevant to normal people.

-I mean who else buys AMD cards knowingly? The only people an AMD DIY card launch is relevant to is tech nerds.

Joe Dumb**** doesn't care and he's gonna go buy a "5070:4090 Performance: $550" card anyway.

Anyone who actually gives a flying **** about AMD cards is here, or on other tech forums. And this is a weird AF announce/reveal/launch/release fo-sho.

We are not the market, we are barely a rounding error on the market.

I'm sure most AMD GPU buyers that have better things to do with their days, and the same applies to other buyers of all tech products.

Imagine somewhere there are Dishwasher forums, with fans arguing about which dishwasher is best, and there is postponed announcement of a dishwasher, that some are freaking out about.

We wouldn't even know that announcement exists because dishwashers have no daily interest to us. We would be like 99.9%+ of the public that doesn't care about dishwasher product announcements.

The same applies to normal people and GPU announcements.

Normal people might do some research when they actually need to buy a product, they don't hang out in forums breathlessly awaiting the next leak/rumor/official crumb of information for months on end.

The normals are going to outnumber the forum dwellers >1000:1.

This is just a report on a PCGH forum post. It has the same credibility as when wccftech makes articles about posts on this forum.

The rumor doesn't pass basic scrutiny. Blackwell is a middling price/performance increase. So unless they expected Blackwell to have zero price/performance increase, I don't see how AMD could have been caught off guard.
