“US officials are investigating the appearance of a strain of bird flu identified in the US for the first time, a worrying sign that the virus is evolving in ways that could make it harder to contain.

Detected on a duck farm in Merced County, California, it’s the first confirmed case of H5N9 in poultry in the US, according to the website for the World Organization for Animal Health, a Paris-based group focused on animal diseases.”

US press is a day late on this announcement—because it could only be announced in Paris, France thanks to Trump. Trump immediately moved to block NIH grants and CDC communications with WHO since inauguration. Is he so scared of dealing with another pandemic that he’d rather we all bury our heads in sand? How does that make us safer?

With Trump scheduled to behave the exact same way he dealt with Cvd19, as the saying goes, it's not a matter of what, it's a matter of when he'll start making those lame ass excuses for it's spread if it does bloom into another pandemic. And his hordes of Karen anti-vaxxers and anti-maskers will ride the crest of the epidemic waving their Trump flags a-hoot'in-n-a-holler'in as usual about their right to get themselves killed the way they see fit.

Of course Biden is going to be blamed for it all and Trump will be claiming simple cures like gargling clorox and shooting light up the ass to kill the germs will work wonders so nobody panic, it'll all work itself out....again...just like the last time.

It'll be worse this time, he at least had some smart people around that he'd occasionally listen to. Now there is no one there.

Without getting too far down into the details, my understanding is that it's just not effective for a number of reasons. Highly transmissible, can't prevent interaction with wild birds, have to get the right vaxx mix, trade issues.

Not to derail anything here, I just wanted to mention how chickens have been butchered a lot earlier in their growth to the point where if I go out to the Colonel's, or Popeyes, etc. I have to eat a thigh, breast, a coup'la wings and a drumstick to make my tummy happy, not including the sides. It's like describing two pieces of chicken as a meal is a joke now days.

Agreed. Smart people, especially smart women are people that Trump fears most because he knows he can't con them into believing what a "stable genius" he is as he does with his dumbed down base of MAGATs. My guess, just a guess, is that with chickens only living 2-8 months before being slaughtered, farmers don't want to pay for the vaccines.

Are we better at predicting dominant bird flu strains than we are human flu strains? I'm not going to profess to being well-informed about bird flu, but I expect the reasons the birds aren't vaccinated isn't simple and clear cut. I could be wrong.
