Was absolutely an egg shortage at the store yesterday.
Not sure what to make of that, but I assume that's why prices are rising.

No eggs at my Safeway for the last two trips.

I saw an 18 pack of Target brand eggs for 12.99
a couple days ago.

From what I read, the bird flu that has decimated the egg laying hens and it will take several months for the egg laying population of hens to get back to where they were.

Basically, don't expect the price to drop in the next month or two.

I can't wait for the tariffs to hit and Canada turn off the tap on oil, gas and electricity export to US. Oh and potash.

You guys should definitely do this at least for a week. Panicking the public and markets is the only way to get him to back off.

Coordinate it with the Mexicans closing the border to trade for the same amount of time and you'll produce a full blown freak out.
LoL love it. I am sure the current Mexican president is not going to be happy with tariffs either. I mean let's ignore the free trade agreement Trump rebranded...

Trump is such a moron. He successfully rebranded a free trade agreement - and could have run on such success. But his brain is complete mush, and the response to everything is either tariffs or aggressive stupidity.

The demands are not even superficially economic this time either which means no agreement you can ever make with him is likely to hold for long. This would argue for simply lying to him about what you'll do because he's probably gonna break the deal anyway. If that's not good enough then talk to the other countries in the same boat and conduct simultaneous economic warfare against the US.

so in fresh news.. Trump will place tariffs on foreign computer chips to bring production to the US.

Does he know his fanbase in congress is trying to kill the CHIPS Act?

Or that we actually need a few years to start production of chips domestically? Last I heard TSMC in Arizona will be online next year at the earlier.

So the idea is to use tariffs for leverage to get countries to do what you want then...you just do the tariffs anyway and it will work out?

Donald Trump’s Treasury secretary Scott Bessent is pushing for new universal tariffs on US imports to start at 2.5 per cent and rise gradually, said four people familiar with the proposal. The 2.5 per cent levy would move higher by the same amount each month, the people familiar with it said, giving businesses time to adjust and countries the chance to negotiate with the US president’s administration. The levies could be pushed up to as high as 20 per cent — in line with Trump’s maximalist position on the campaign trail last year. But a gradual introduction would be more moderate than the immediate action some countries feared.

But many imports, the US gets the majority of the product from ally countries and can’t be replaced elsewhere. Like call his bluff. Enact the tariffs. Companies have already raised prices in anticipation of the tariff threats. Let the American consumer suffer. Each country can subsidize any loss of sales for the smaller products. What’s the orange monkey going to do? Back door deal with Putin to make up the loss of Canadian oil and Mexican produce?

Well here comes the coffee.

It goes over 10 bucks and I'm done with it.

Dollar general forgot to replace their label on the shelf. Price is right weight is off.
Maxwell House made their containers look larger. But reduced the weight. Old ones were 24.6 or 9 oz new ones that look larger and same price, are 23.1 oz.
Yep double checked 23.1 oz.

cheap is a relative term here. Our eggs are over-priced due to Supply Management of dairy. On average where I am, a dozen large eggs is $3.99. I just wish they were cheaper. 1lb of butter is over $5. And don't get me started on cheese prices.
I don't mind supply management. I do want the farmers to make enough money.

Zero interest in American milk.

I'm sure Trump is fuming at Powel's decision to not lower rates just now. Powel is smart enough to see the employment numbers and Trump's plans for tariffs. Countdown to how soon Trump will recommend removing Powel from the Fed.
Oops! Apparently, premature. There has been no official announcement yet. We will see, but that's what is expected. Looking at empty podium on CNBC.

OK. It's official, not changing rates.

The likely outcome of a Trump trade war is a global recession. Nobody would be happy near term, although China benefits most long term.

The Feb 1 tariffs on CA and MX alone could be incredibly painful for North America.

Gas here up another 20 cents per gallon since inauguration in addition to the 10 cents per gallon immediately after inauguration. That's almost 10% in about 2 weeks.

They want us all homesteading and having chickens for eggs.

I really thought about it but didn't have any solutions for the smell.
