That's not mine. It's an account I follow on mastodon. It'll be interesting to see what groceries do over time with a fixed cart. This is apparently TN. I think eggs were $3.89 last week at aldi. That's gonna be at least couple dollars cheaper than normal stores. I get my eggs from a farmer.

This is the full cart from kroger...

I hope it's temporary negation tactics...

Trump tariffs on Canada, Mexico and China begin Saturday, White House says

* 25% tariff on Mexico
* 25% tariff on Canada
* 10% tariff on China

Together, the U.S. does about $1.6 trillion in annual business with the three countries.

Duties will raise beef prices that are high, experts say

About two-thirds of US vegetable imports come from Mexico

Up to 40% of fresh produce sold in U.S. food stores is imported

US issues order mandating bird flu testing of milk supply

Bird flu has infected more than 500 dairy herds in top milk state California, and more than 700 nationwide

Nearly 60 people have contracted the virus since April

The thing I'll give Trump is when he says he'll do something, he does it. He doesn't mess around. Our election couldn't come faster, we need a better leader that can better work with him instead of trying to fight him. These tariffs were easily avoidable.

No, they weren't. He wanted the tariffs, he got the tariffs. He couldn't even point to an actual reason why he wanted them, so nobody was going to do anything to change his mind on it.

Maybe it's a cultural thing. I can't imagine eating enough eggs for it to impact my diet if they were restricted. I guess they are in a lot of things but you'd have to eat a lot of cake for the price of eggs to affect your grocery bill!
I wouldn't say we eat a lot of eggs, but in a family of 3 we each have one most mornings, then others may get sprinkled in depending on what meals we're making. A baking recipe here, an egg drop soup there, we clear an 18-count a week, give or take.

Trump literally said there is nothing Canada can do to avoid them. He's kicking you in the nuts and you're saying "Thank you, sir. May I have another?"

I appreciate decisive action also, but only when it isn't a moron acting. Decisive action comes after long periods of thought and consultation. You say what you're gonna do, and you do it. Pulling shit out of your ass and throwing it against a wall is what toddlers do. They act decisively also, but they're idiots. That's why we don't let toddlers control anything.

Oh, and...

That's 30¢ cheaper than the maximum price it's been since it was started this year.

edit:
Figured I'd get it in a spreadsheet before it becomes a PITA to do so

He wanted us to fix our border. Although I saw a blurb on the news that they are somewhat working on it so it did light a fire under our government's ass. So yeah who knows, maybe even if we secured it 100% he would have kept going anyway.

He accused Canada of being the source of fentanyl that kills 10s of millions of Americans. The man is a lunatic and you're in here egging him on at your own expense. Also foreign governments told him all the time in 1.0 that they were "working on something" whenever he made up some bullshit to complain about.

The people have spoken, according to you, and apparently what we want is to devastate Canada’s economy so we can make it the 51st state. Enjoy.

Crazy to see a limit on eggs. I know people who have trouble giving them away! I have not noticed the price here TBH, I hardly pay attention as it's not really something that hits the wallet as hard as other costs of living. Think they're like around 5 bucks or something like that, I'll have to check next time I need some. Still more than they used to be though.

The clothing one is interesting as the U.S. produces almost no clothing anyway. I wonder if there is a very specific target for this?

Canada doesn't have the same problem as US since we practice supply management.

I'm not up-to-date; what are we hoping to achieve by putting tariffs on Canada?

As the opioid epidemic raged in the United States, killing thousands, Congress in 2020 established a commission to look into ways to reduce the flow of the drugs into the country. The commission found that “Canada is not known to be a major source of fentanyl, other synthetic opioids or precursor chemicals to the United States, a conclusion primarily drawn from seizure data,” according to its February 2022 report.

Last year, U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents intercepted about 19 kilograms of fentanyl at the northern border, compared with almost 9,600 kilograms at the border with Mexico, where cartels mass-produce the drug.

Long story short he thinks Canada is taking advantage of the US because there is a trade imbalance, which is mostly oil.

Apparently he thinks it is very unfair Canada sells us oil and we give them dollars.

Trade imbalances are a fantastic deal for the US as long as the rest of the world is willing to accept our currency.
