I was reading more about why people prefer 24fps for movies. People think 60fps feels more like a live play than a movie and takes you out of the movie world. I have never seen a 60fps or 120fps movie outside game cutscenes but live TV is often 60fps. But I'm surprised there are not more 60fps or 120fps movies. It's something you would expect to see in a Nolan movie.
MFG = Movie Frame Generation??

Soon experience movies at a buttery smooth 96 fps near you!

Nolan is a diehard "film only" guy, so very much a traditionalist, that would be against anything but 24fps.

He experiments with things like though. Maybe have some part of a movie run at 120fps and the rest at 24fps, something like the forward and backward time in Tenet.

S class retailers in Australia are cancelling 50 series orders
Failed launch
View attachment 116187
The rumour is that the AIB have pulled stock due to FE's coming to Australia.

No idea on how true this is. There is one retailer who haven't switched off their buy now button, but they have a warning that it will be months before the order will be fulfilled.

Man they're really trying to make AMD seem like peak of competence, both in terms of uarch and product launches.
this is a play by Nvidia. This is totally a late Q1 or Q2 product, not enough have made. create hype based on low demand. All it shows is a care of care for its partners, retailers and customers.

This is ultimately the worst way to ever deal business

i wonder what the issue is? Yields?
GDDR7?

More likley: using capacity for AI chips and GB202 certainly will also go into professional cards that cost 2-3x the price of a 5090. so there is really no incentive for NV to provide a lot of supply for 5000-series.

And with the fake msrp of the FE editions they can also pretend to not have increased prices yet again. the 5080 is worse than the 4080 super, let's be clear about that.

"AI" chips are limited by HBM and advanced packaging, not N4 process wafers - 50 series are totally incremental to that effort, fact selling 90 series for 2-3 times more requires it to be made in the first place and rebranded as pro card - where are those? Zero announcements.

The whole thing is damp squib anyway, it's not like perf gone up like it did from 3090 to 4090, let them eat their own cards.

There are 48FPS cinema screenings of certain movies, so yes, they do exist.
HFR in cinemas is either not advertised or they sometimes forget to turn off the smooth fps option because I have seen a few movies (one of them was a Liam Neeson bank heist movie) where the framerate seemed a bit off in normal scenes but then there was an explosion and even though the explosion was over in a few seconds, it was BUTTERY smooth. There's no way to describe it than to see something like that. Normally explosions happen on screen and I forget about them immediately but this one stayed in my mind because my mind kept replaying it back moments after the scene was gone. It was quick yet my brain could remember it happening bit by bit like in slow motion. Very odd experience.

Maybe that is intentional and made to make the explosion look smoother. I think that is why people who are used to 24fps say 60fps looks like CGI and takes you out of the movie world.

Average session price shown by DRAMexchange for GDDR6 (last gen introduced Aug 2018 - almost 7 years ago) was $2.3 per GB, so $73.6 for 32 GB

I am not privy to their contracts, but double that price should be a bare minimum for this new gen that seems time exclusive to Nvidia.
Unless you buy all production for a year. Spot prices on Dramexchange and contract prices like Nvidia does directly with Micron/SKHynix CEOs are totally different things...

I'm not good at world economy, so I wonder if the "Trump tariffs" will affect prices outside US ?

More good news, this time I have my /s tag ready. If anyone managed to buy a 5090, consider not upgrading your drivers until this gets sorted out (fixed or proven as false alarm).

GeForce RTX 5090 and 5090D Getting Bricked After Recent Drivers Update

Colorful and Manli are currently the only two AIB partners that have produced these problems. However, several complaints of the same problem with Gigabyte’s RTX 5090D have also surfaced.
