Sudden no video output, then it worked, then it didn't

Originally I had a AMD 5600X, Asus mobo, NVX PSU, GTX 1080. In 2023, I upgraded it to a AMD 5800x, Asrock mobo, Red Dragon PSU...no video output. Nothing I tried worked so figured the GPU took a dump as it was a few years old. I purchased a RTX 4060 TI, worked fine....further proof to me that the GTX took a dump. That is until last week when all I did was shut the PC down, it was working great all that time. Opened the case and replaced an NVME SSD upgrade....no video output. Naturally I did all the usual stuff, CMOS reset, different hdmi cables, took it apart and put back again, everything seated properly but never had video output again.

Said F*it. Bought a Core i5 Ultra 245k. Asrock Mobo, RAM. Reused Red Dragon PSU etc....no video output. So I replaced the RD PSU with the prior NVX PSU which worked perfectly fine when last used but now the MOBO wouldn't even turn on,, just an intial fan kick and then nothing. Everything seated correctly, it almost seems as if the PSU no longer works. Swapped the PSU back to the Red Dragon and this time I tried an HDMI to Dport adapter.....it worked and had output. So apparentely video card does work, not sure if switching display outputs was the culprit because after that, I shut it down, put it all back together and then went into the bios and all I did was change the clock to correct time. Save and reset....no video output again. I can't seem to get it back. I tried different PCIE power ports but no difference. I think the Red Dragon SFX is a single rail.

So what's the most likely culprit? Bad GPU or bad PSU? or something else?...seems odd that either would fail when all I initially did was open the case and swap out an SSD. I should also note that since purchasing the RTX, I really haven't played hardly any games. I probably have about 8 hours total time in using that GPU since I bought it. And the video had output on those 2 seperate power cycles but not since I changed the bios clock which means everything is properly installed. Unless by striking coincidence the Bios just happened to take a dump after changing the clock but that would still leave me with the same issue prior to that.

Go back in…double check ALL your connections…at the board and at the PSU.

Yeah, done that, I got like 4 complete tear downs and rebuilds listed on there and thanks first level tier tech support. But remember I did have video output through 2 power cycles so it obviously had connection and a third reset just doesn't kick your locking connectors off the components or nothin. Just say'n. If you don't know fine, how bout I clear the CMOS for the 50th time while im at it. 51th time's the charm. At this point it's more likely to be a broken PSU wire than it is the connection that locks into place. Every PSU wire has a huge ass locking latch on it. It seats down tight, latches...it's a connection, just put me on hold for 45 minutes and connect me to the parts department

Having owned one Asrock board, you can count on at least one defect slipping through factory. In my case, something was making the sound out ports garbage on the H77M.

But here, it seems the SSD is the key change. It could be a bad drive.

What also could be the issue is that a motherboard trace, already weakened, died upon your SSD swap by flexing.

I can tell this happened to my Samsung A53 phone, where the power connector had been yanked many times and stressed the motherboard. I had a connection "barely hanging on", where fanagling the ribbon would restore the screen. But then I though I could fix things by replacing the ribbon. Now, I'm screw as nothing shows on the display. I know the cable is good because I have extra motherboards from Ebay swaps in the past.

Final thought...you could have ESD'd something.

That is a lot to take in. If I'm reading correctly almost every thing in the box was changed including CPU and GPU.

The PSU is suspect since it was reused, specifically the power to the video card or that cable. Make sure you don't have a pin that is worked loose.

If that isn't it the issue could be out of the box, with the monitor or associated cabling and connections.

Have you got another source with a video output to test the monitor, like a laptop or DVD player?
