Thanks for the pointer. For a tower air cooler, this looks like very near the optimum that can be done in the 4U form factor.

BTW, Arctic have a tool in which you enter a CPU and get recommendations for cooler models of theirs. They don't have EPYC 9005 Turin listed yet, but EPYC 9004 Genoa:

Note that the Freezer 4U-SP5 shows up in this tool only for CPUs with less than 300 W default TDP, not for the top end CPUs (in case of Genoa, those with 360 W TDP).

Now I wish somebody made a 5U cooler (would fit into virtually any EATX PC case), but I'm almost sure it won't happen because 5U rackmount chassis are just too uncommon.

Also, until now I missed that Silverstone XED120-WS, which is mentioned in Phoronix' review, is compatible not only with SP3/TR4 but also with SP5. I believe other cooler makers could make their existing SP3/TR4 coolers compatible with SP5 too without too much effort, which would make it more viable to produce e.g. 5U coolers.

The lack of good air coolers on SP5 is one of the main reasons why I decided to go with water blocks for mine.

Based on Phoronix' test with 400 W TDP, the Arctic Freezer 4U-SP5 should be perfectly functional even at this high TDP — *if* air noise at 4U rackmount chassis levels is not a problem for the user. I.e. worse noise than usual high-air-flow PC builds, but not as terrible as 2U or 1U servers.

Couple of our members ordered the cooler last night. So we should have in-house test results in the next few weeks. Delivery from Amazon claimed March 1st, but hopefully it's sooner than that.

E.g.
– toned down marketing expenses compared to some competitors
– radiator fins are likely press-fit onto the heatpipes rather than soldered
– direct-touch design instead of heatpipes soldered into a cold plate sandwich

I will still need to use a AIO for my 9654 t get full cooling, damn it. (the fan noise)

Edit: I bought one anyway, since it MAY save me the $300 for another AIO price to get good cooling. (noise TBD)
Edit2: Delivery is one month out, even though I have prime !!!! (Ordered with Amazon)

I received mine a couple days ago. I installed it today in my dual socket Genoa, with the original 'Cool Server' cooler on one CPU and the Arctic on the other. They seem to perform pretty much the same. After running Primegrid for awhile both CPU's are the exact same temperature. The cooler mounts 90 degrees different than the Cool Server. The Cool Server heatsink blows air towards the top in a tower case, the Arctic blows air towards the back. On a single CPU machine the Arctic probably would be better for most people, but on a dual socket it means that it's blowing hot air from one CPU into the intake of the other CPU.

The Arctic is massive though and seems to have pretty nice build quality. It was easy to install.
