8GB
Horizon Forbidden West 3060 is faster than the 2080 Super despite the former usually competing with the 2070. Also 3060 has a better 1% low than 4060 and 4060Ti 8GB.
Resident Evil Village 3060TI/3070 tanks at 4K and is slower than the 3060/6700XT when ray tracing:
Company Of Heroes 3060 has a higher minimum than the 3070TI:

10GB / 12GB

Reasons why still shipping 8GB since 2014 isn't NV's fault.
  1. It's the player's fault.
  2. It's the reviewer's fault.
  3. It's the developer's fault.
  4. It's AMD's fault.
  5. It's the game's fault.
  6. It's the driver's fault.
  7. It's a system configuration issue.
  8. Wrong settings were tested.
  9. Wrong area was tested.
  10. Wrong games were tested.
  11. 4K is irrelevant.
  12. Texture quality is irrelevant as long as it matches a console's.
  13. Detail levels are irrelevant as long as they match a console's.
  14. There's no reason a game should use more than 8GB, because a random forum user said so.
  15. It's completely acceptable for the more expensive 3070/3070TI/3080 to turn down settings while the cheaper 3060/6700XT has no issue.
  16. It's an anomaly.
  17. It's a console port.
  18. It's a conspiracy against NV.
  19. 8GB cards aren't meant for 4K / 1440p / 1080p / 720p gaming.
  20. It's completely acceptable to disable ray tracing on NV while AMD has no issue.
  21. Polls, hardware market share, and game title count are evidence 8GB is enough, but are totally ignored when they don't suit the ray tracing agenda.
According to some people here, 8GB is neeeevaaaaah NV's fault and objective evidence "doesn't count" because of reasons(tm). If you have others please let me know and I'll add them to the list. Cheers!

Been looking at a few benchmarks of KCD II, why do AMD cards perform so poorly in that game?
Its not NV sponsered at all.

Did AMD release a driver update for this game?
Some AMD users have the same question

Edit: looks like both NV and Intel released a driver update for this game on the 30th Jan.

I believe a good part of the problem is the raytracing bloat that devs have been adopting as per Nvidia's "request" and marketing co-sponsorship, as the BVH tree occupies quite a bit of VRAM by itself.
you forget where games are made for consoles first and RT is mandatory on consoles too for games like Indy.
The funniest thing is that Nvidia is now promoting neural-network generated textures to save VRAM space
again AMD is also doing the same thing if you bother to read their GPUOpen papers
Nvidia-only solution (neural textures)
Intel and AMD have their own solutions for this...

The game is Crytek engine and apparently AMD cards have had issues with it for awhile.
All the more reason for AMD to focus on the driver for this game.

It’s kinda sad to see, cause I thought we finally had an engine that worked well on all GPUs. Hopefully, AMD works to improve their support as this game is selling well.

Maybe the RDNA 4 drivers will fix this (including older RDNA 3 cards too )

I dislike the amount of truth in the statement about poor optimization though. It is probably the strongest defense the "losing side" offers. I am playing Rise of the Tomb Raider, and the game looks and plays amazing for how little vram is uses. Something certainly went wrong somewhere. Hell, look at how well Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 runs on 8GB cards.
I believe that game uses (Voxel) Cone Tracing rather than (Pixel) Ray Tracing

Not sure if that contributes to lower VRAM usage. Maybe they use other such tricks to optimize VRAM

4060 vs 7600XT
He does not emphasize you can keep the textures maxed on the 16GB card, or spend any time comparing the difference that can make in those titles. Since he kept optimizing for a 60fps target, why not spend more time on frame generation? At 60fps in all of those single player titles you can apply it. Oh that's right, the 4060 can't use it without upscaling from an absurdly low internal resolution.

Reposting a lovely example of using the wrong "settings":

If only the moronic reviewer had used the 4060 the way it was meant to be used. How else can anyone explain a card with less RAM bandwidth and lower GPU frequency from two generations ago, beating the 4060 to a pulp? It can't be anything else other than the wrong settings used, can it? (imagine an orangutan scratching its head)

the measured behaviour is sufficient for us to simply not recommend this game to anyone with a graphics card with 8GB of VRAM or less. Having to decide between high textures that cause stutters while looking sub-par and medium textures that look even worse, neither is a choice we can particularly recommend.

To sum up, lower-end graphics cards with lower VRAM allocations should avoid Monster Hunter Wilds until these issues are rectified. Higher-end hardware can brute-force the game's shortcomings to some degree, but it's still hard to recommend such a flawed technical outing - or even derive optimised settings.
