NV is trying to milk the insane bubble as much they can, jensen calls the shots. NV was always very aggressive. in some ways this goes 100% contrary to the wholesome taiwanese uncle persona of jensen PR lol

decision making process for next gens is very interesting. lots of big decisions around fab cost/performance and release schedules. on GPUs nvidia <-> amd has a very different cadence/relationship than on CPUs intel <-> amd, what I mean:

CPUs:

amd way ahead but still conservative: #1 chips with cost effective fab/packaging too
intel way behind, desperate, struggles to keep up, #2 chips with very expensive fab, power hungry, hot etc

GPUs:

nvidia was always aggressive, now literally #1 GDP company global but instead of going conservative, they exploit everything even more to the max to be #1 perf: extremely aggressive fab/packaging, massive dies heaviest cards possible with ridiculous requirements 600watts lol. of course they run into trouble

amd behind but still conservative, chooses to even skip top-end rdna4, says "nvidia u r too crazy"

NV is now too big it can absord desktop blackwell failure, also blackwell did very well on data centers as it produced colossal products and demand is insane, can't stop making chips

crazy conspiracy theory speculation: as TSMC fab capacity is limited, Jensen intentionally caused desktop blackwell failures to limit desktop production in order to produce even more data-center blackwell 🤪🤪
Further speculation: consumer blackwell validation completed with the help of monkeys with exposed skulls receiving instructions from human engineers through Musk's Neuralink brain interface. Those ROP issues happened every time a monkey farted.

The question is whether aggressive Jensen will tolerate such big failure with 50 series or decide to pull 60 series for next year on at least N3

It also seems to me low 5090 perf was due to lack of ROPs in the first place - they were not increased vs 4090, and now we even have failures, would have bought 5090 FE at MSRP, but not interested now even if it was available

He literally slept through serious 4090 issues (cables melting and unusually high monthly GPU repairs).

Only way to fix this situation is for everyone to unite and boycott Nvidia GPUs, even just for 6 months until Jensen freaks out. Fat chance of that happening.

Probably a bad call to serve beans all week in the cafeteria.

Just do not buy 5xxx I will not, they can plug them where there is no sunshine.......

Given their propensity for catching fire, keeping them in the dark and far away from any external heat source is probably a good idea.

Only Nvidia 5 branded series that was any good was Fermi respin. AKA GTX 580. Which a GF100 die while 70 was cut down from that. Then 680 came along as a 204 die. Was competitive with AMD/ATI 7970.

ANYWAY, they went 780/Ti full GK100 was Titan Black. Then 980/Ti, 1080/Ti, then 2xxx and up.
Remember Geforce FX was a 5xxx series. History repeats. Now 100 die is DC 102 is 90, or is it 103 now? which one was 70 series on 106 die, then they came back with the cut down 80 series die for the 70Ti?

I for one am done giving Nvidia my money.

Why would they do that? They'll release a super whatever next year, like they've done for the 40 series and the 20 series. I'm not sure if they've "moved forward" consumer cards (except maybe refreshes like super) in the last ten years. AMD is not competitive by their own volition, so it's not like there's much competitive pressure on the high end. Give it a few months and people will break and buy the cards, they'll forget about the issues and get bombarded with how great DLSS4 (until DLSS5 comes out and then DLSS4 will be considered terrible).

they can easily release a 5090S or 5090ti if they want some more performance with a full GB202

RDNA4 looks a lot better than anyone could have expected, as long as the price is right of course - and if it is then NVidia will have to respond, plus it seems to me even for DC Blackwell is bad arch - maybe because it was meant to be on N3 in the first place, Jensen will have to move fast get Rubin and 60 series out next year.

Jensen has crazy positive PR around him, way beyond customers / gamers / enthusiasts, also is the OG founder 31 years ago.... virtually nobody can replace him

At this stage, anything is possible. Nvidia's new mantra is, anything that can go wrong, will. At least in desktop gaming gpus.

If I was a shareholder I would demand he be replaced. Dont care if he was in the top 3 best CEOs of a company, he was just lucky that the gaming business morphed into data centers and AI. The company is too often so amateurish its breathtaking.
This is a wrong take. It goes both ways. He is also responsible for the successes of the company.

It's just a cyclical nature taking effect. No one is consistently good all the time.

By the way some are saying the AI bubble with pop with Nvidia. I agree. Don't know if it'll start with their Q1 earnings though, too early.

He said it in the video: One or two (little) F ups per generation are OK. Can happen. But how many of them have we now? A dozen? Driver issues? Burning connectors might even be dangerous? Is that the product quality you'd expect from the market leader and a >3b$ market capitalization company? And because you are paying premium for Nvidia, very high prices at even MSRP and absurd high prices at market price points, it makes it even worse.

If the cards would be twice as fast as the predecessor generation, the complaints would probably be less drastic. There would be at least one big plus point. But even there we get close to nothing gain (either performance or performance per Dollar).

I think it's funny how the PC enthusiast community is making some noise over all this while Nvidia couldn't possibly care less about the gaming market. It's pointless since gamers were replaced with higher paying AI customers. Complaining about a "failed launch" that doesn't even matter to the company's bottom line is like stubbing your toe on a rock and yelling at the ground. When you're done yelling, just keep walking buddy. Maybe move on to another hobby or something.

560ti was a solid card too!

I bought one for 3D Vision V1.0 and can't remember any complaints about this card. The next one after this was a "used in great condition 1060 3GB" (had been playing consoles for a few years so didn't really know that buying this card was pretty stupid).
