With the GFX940 patches in full swing since first week of March, it is looking like MI300 is not far in the distant future!
Usually AMD takes around 3Qs to get the support in LLVM and amdgpu. Lately, since RDNA2 the window they push to add support for new devices is much reduced to prevent leaks.
But looking at the flurry of code in LLVM, it is a lot of commits. Maybe because US Govt is starting to prepare the SW environment for El Capitan (Maybe to avoid slow bring up situation like Frontier for example)

See here for the GFX940 specific commits
Or Phoronix

There is a lot more if you know whom to follow in LLVM review chains (before getting merged to github), but I am not going to link AMD employees.

I am starting to think MI300 will launch around the same time like Hopper probably only a couple of months later!
Although I believe Hopper had problems not having a host CPU capable of doing PCIe 5 in the very near future therefore it might have gotten pushed back a bit until SPR and Genoa arrives later in 2022.
If PVC slips again I believe MI300 could launch before it

This is nuts, MI100/200/300 cadence is impressive.

The thing is raster performance is still much more important than RT performance for the average person. Most games dont have ray tracing. Some games that do have ray tracing run at unacceptably low framerates with it on. These also tend to be the games where Nvidia has the biggest lead. And Ray tracing is the first thing you should turn off to get better FPS.

The Nvidia -$50 meme has always been with roughly equal raster performance and much worse ray tracing performance. The 6800 XT was $50 cheaper and 5% slower in raster.

If you won't consider AMD even when they have better perf/dollar, then why are you on this subforum?

Even with RT off, would RDNA4 be better perf/dollar if DLSS4 Performance beats FSR4 Quality in both FPS and IQ? We need to see what FSR4 can do before we can make that judgement IMO.

You know what $749 DLSS Performance looks like? $999 out of stock or $1445 buy and cry.

You need to understand that 9070 XT would be better value at $650 even with FSR3. As long as AMD has meaningful stock to quench the market thirst, the discussion is over until Nvidia starts pushing enough cards to stabilize pricing. That's when we re-evaluate RDNA4, at whatever market price it will have by then.

If AMD lacks the proper volumes at launch, value discussion is nil anyway, cards will sell instantly and we'll be back to ground zero: no cards, only pathetic comparisons of DLSS4 vs FSR4 by people who swore to us a couple of years ago that DLSS3 Quality is better than native.

This post is a master's class in stating things as they are, and succinctly covering what you could spend volumes writing about.

It's actually funny how people are grateful that someone (game devs and nvidia) cut their legs fist with a TAA chainsaw, and then offered (for a price) a high-tech prostesis that does almost the same, but is inherently twitchy (TAA jitter) and does not follow the commands immediately (frame accumulation). All sorts of temporal upscaling are the worst thing that happened to the gaming industry (well, maybe it's for the best, there are other hobbies too or older games)
