What does Ukraine get out of it?
That part is not clear at all.
This isn’t the orange monkey taking 50% to repay the aid they’ve given so far. It’s them probably giving rights to mine and as mentioned in article, proceeds go to rebuilding Ukraine.

-So it's basically a huge nothing burger. US companies get to bid on UKR resource extraction and UKR... gets to use the money...

Did I get that wrong or... ???

I mean, good for Ukraine, but we all know this "arrangement" is worth the used toilet paper its written on as soon as Trump talks to Putin next...

Hopefully American boots on the ground ... Its a tripwire, if Russia does stupid the US has to act.

If this is correct

"Asked what Ukraine would receive in the mineral deal, Trump said: “$350 billion and lots of equipment, military equipment, and the right to fight on.”"

I will have to reevaluate my take on Trump being Putins bitch.

As much an greedy idiot he is, I doubt he’s that stupid to send in Americans to mine immediately before the war is over.

100% this is a post war deal. Which would also mean that Trump is invested in continuation of Ukrainian government as is.

All of this makes no sense. I dont believe it until its facts.

The story may be different tomorrow. It doesn't sound right. Anyway, I watched Lester Holt tonight and he never said anything about 350B going to Ukraine and US protection for mineral rights. He did talk about the SCOTUS granting a man a new trial after he'd already survived 3 scheduled executions and 2 last meals. Also another almost mid-air planes collision, and nobody died worth mentioning.

New York Times story on this as yet unsigned agreement.

Just one of many great "Reader Picks" comments:

So it’s come to this. “The land of the free and the home of the brave” has turned extortionist, and is playing right into Putin’s hands. As Nikita Khrushchev said in 1956: “We will take America without firing a shot. We do not have to invade the U.S. We will destroy you from within”.

I agree. I dont see enough Putin handjobs in this to be aligned/extrapolated with past data points.

Russia's sponsorship of the NRA alone paid them huge benefits IMO. I think it's reasonable to suspect that one goes deeper than the facts we've already been presented with.

I kind of like this deal. It will bring money and jobs to Ukraine which they desperately need.

Part of the rift between both countries was one wanting to join NATO, a direct link into the Volga Gap, which makes Russia vulnerable to an unstoppable land invasion.

But more importantly, Russia is an oil based economy and Ukraine has vast reserves of oil and gas they were wanting to develop prior to the start of the war. This was part of the reason for the annexation of the Crimea because of the undersea reserves and access to that sea. By cutting Russia out of the oil and gas market via Ukraine and further supplying the worldwide market for oil, you seriously undermine a vital part of the Russian economy.

By making Ukraine a world player in the REM market it may give it a greater economic standing in that regard (besides its status as a bread basket), and with an American economic presence and European troops possibly stationed in Ukraine it would be more risky to attack again.

Still not convinced this is anything but a ruse.

Either the terms presented are going to be radically different when the documents are actually presented to Zelensky, or Trump is going to start accusing UKR of violating some made up thing that makes the agreement void shortly after it's signed.

Whole thing smells really off.

Wouldn't even discount Zelensky and UKR brass getting "red wedding'd" at this point honestly...

Looks like Ukraine demanding a security guarantee and Trump not willing to give one will be the problem, imo.

That still doesn't answer the question, how much is Russia paying for reconstruction? Or do we just let that one slide?

Per Trump's own suggestion Ukrainian reconstruction would be paid for by tariffs on Russian energy exports. The man's love of tariffs knows no bounds but this would probably be a workable solution to generate the cash which the Kremlin would not mind too much. Trump's acting like he doesn't need the EU to play ball here even though he really does because that's the most import market by far for Russian energy.

He's think he's found the magic economy bullet. He has no clue.
