Ah AMD was for me always such a no-go. After having Intel/Nvidia all my life made last year an exception and built nice AMD+AMD setup. First gone the graphic card, then rest now sits in the workshop because either CPU or mainboard is causing it to BSOD for no reason.

And my PCs are mostly without issues so just hit my brand loyal brain hard lol.

I guess you are not lucky at all. Most people run AMD processor without issue. Running out of pcie lanes should not be a thing. I (well work) had a dual opteron with SLI video cards (forgot the model) doing GIS route compute. This was when I joined here to ask about a Tyan MB.

Like I said, you can get used infiniband 40gbps gear fairly cheaply. If you care to have networked storage.

If it is just two machines then you can run it without a switch, just need to have a subnet manager running.

I am aware that AMD is a good platform no worries, was just wrong timing of two issues so my next build will likely be again Intel + Nvidia because I am very brand loyal lol. Against my good more often than not.

But will definitely use the new knowledge on building the next one. This one has to work until the upgrade will make sense (for example super cheap SSDs, huge leap in power, or dead of the existing system).

I have no real performance needs on the network, it can copy over night for what I care. All critical things happen only on the workstation.

Then the pcie nvme card looks like a good solution.

I think also... will check at that. would sacrifice a bit rendering performance for additional 4x4TB under 600€, or maybe stop escalating and go back to Harddrive and endless back and forth copying to SSD whatever I was working on. Speed of SSDs is very addictive even for such money savvy person as my self.

Nothing wrong with HDDs for backup storage purpose. Reason I said you should setup an unraid NAS is you can use a nvme or sata SSD as cache drive for a HDD pool to mitigate speed.

yes that is how i used it for "ages" but got so annoyed of moving it all the time. When I need a new project, needed to move 200-300GB from a slow HDD.

That's where a SSD cache pool can mask HDD slowness.
