With the GFX940 patches in full swing since first week of March, it is looking like MI300 is not far in the distant future!
Usually AMD takes around 3Qs to get the support in LLVM and amdgpu. Lately, since RDNA2 the window they push to add support for new devices is much reduced to prevent leaks.
But looking at the flurry of code in LLVM, it is a lot of commits. Maybe because US Govt is starting to prepare the SW environment for El Capitan (Maybe to avoid slow bring up situation like Frontier for example)

See here for the GFX940 specific commits
Or Phoronix

There is a lot more if you know whom to follow in LLVM review chains (before getting merged to github), but I am not going to link AMD employees.

I am starting to think MI300 will launch around the same time like Hopper probably only a couple of months later!
Although I believe Hopper had problems not having a host CPU capable of doing PCIe 5 in the very near future therefore it might have gotten pushed back a bit until SPR and Genoa arrives later in 2022.
If PVC slips again I believe MI300 could launch before it

This is nuts, MI100/200/300 cadence is impressive.

Some cables are physically incapable of bending the way the Nitro+ will require. I checked my FSP 12v2x6 cable and its been designed to not allow bends anywhere near the connector end. I quite literally could not use the Nitro+ if I wanted with my native 12v2x6.

I really wanted the Nitro+, but I think I'll have to take my second choice in the TUF.
Why not PowerColor red devil?

Ooooof, that just makes it even worse 😒

Bad form Sapphire.

OTOH if their Nitro cards don't sell well they might do a 2x8pin version anyway.

There was a right way for Sapphire to do that connector and that ain't it.

Hurts too, they got 99% of the way there and blew it by forcing a bend too soon. Just let the cable run out the end of the card, that's where most cable routing in modern cases is anyway...

Just get the ASRock cards, they released the best vBIOS last time around.

EDIT: It doesn't look as if ALL XT will have the 16 pin either.

The taichi also uses 12v2x6, but in a standard placement. More details required.
Well I was thinking more along the lines of non Taichi being able to be upgraded to the Aqua XOC vBIOS without a c321 programmer.

IE Phantom Gaming being able to software update to aqua the xoc aqua vbios.
DBL EDIT: without the ridiculous hoops other brands need to jump through to software update now. Like making a dummy .cfg file to get to the aqua vbios 1st.

if space permits in the your case get the Powercolor RD, I think they will be popular due to no 12v2x6 pin. Seems like they were smart to use 3 x8 pins

I doubt there will be an aqua or XOC bios with which to upgrade

Well ASRock was the only one that made available vBIOS upgrade for their 7900XTX cards.
If I was betting, it would be on PowerColor or ASRock. The latter being more generous with updated vBIOS.

I have a Sapphire Nitro+ XTX, and I have not been impressed with their customer service even the US side.

What about current balancing?
There s no current balancing as such, in a 2 x 6 pin connector the 6 pins that handle the positive rail are connected in parralel in the PCB, and the same for the 6 of the negative rail, if the currents are unbalanced it just mean that there s some pins of the card that are not in tight contact with the cable connector pins, hence most of the current flow in the pins that are connected the tightest.

A 650w psu is all good if you have 7700X set to eco mode right?

I think they rate the PSU ratings against a 7950X
Well i would go with 750W tbh...
I swaped, a 4year 750w bequiet straight power 11 platinum cause i could not get 15% power limit any longer after upgrade from 5800x3d to oced 9800x3d more ssds 420 aio rgbt+ etc.
With nzxt 1200C now i can do 15% power limit again on 6800xt...
