The Microcenter here just opened. I had heard about ways to get around the bundled items, but never really looked into it. Thanks for the info. Would be nice if they would just allow substitutes so that you don't have to buy it and return/exchange it. Looks like they apply most of the discount to the CPU (at least on the 7700X bundle items I just tried this on) so that at least works in the favor of the consumer.
You could for a while. I believe it was unintended and they updated the website/POS system to stop it. Up until a few months ago you could add any motherboard, any ram kit, and any CPU that was included in a bundle in your cart and get the discounts applied. I was able to make a reservation with 1 board, 1 kit, and every single bundle AMD/Intel CPU in my cart with the full CPU bundle discount applied. They canceled that reservation on me though. I was still able to stick a open box B650, a 6000C32, a 7800X3D, and a 7700X into my cart and get the discounts on both CPUs without them batting an eye though.

Now that's very interesting. I noticed that I was able to add two different bundles that used the same RAM kit, but I accidently only had 1 kit in the cart and it applied discounts to both CPUs and motherboards.

This also works with motherboards if 2 bundles use the exact same board. Open box is fine here too. it's really just convenience though. You can always buy just the CPUs at bundle price if you return the bundle items you don't want. When i reserve an order I always add individual bundle items to my cart even when I intend to keep them. It's good to keep your return options open.

AMD gives to themselves. Let's not kid ourselves.
They are going to be laying off 4% of the workforce themselves. Gaming division in particular is ugly, and it looks like it'll cost some their jobs.

On topic: This 7800X3D build is a smooth criminal.

My new System is finally up and running...

I Need to tune my Ram tho... seems like this ASUS TRX50 board has no EXPO settting i can just switch to, and needs to be manually config'd.

Also need to let it flex a bit on its test bench before i move the water on it, and into my case for its final resting place.

Yes i am gonna game on it.
Yes i know my brothers 9800X3D will run around it like a toy dog on Adderall.
But i have so many PCI-E lanes i wont miss the few FPS, especially since most of the games i play is GPU bound limited, and i wont notice more then a few % difference on a 4090.

yeah i'll do that after tuning and when its on water...

right now on a air EPYC Server heat sink its not doing very well heat wise... i see it peaking at over 94C on prime95 stock which i think is close to thermal throttle. I have a waterblock for it, and the loop will take time to setup and i wanted to make sure everything was in working order and the ram is good.

The ram i have on it is R-Dimms too.
G.SKILL Zeta R5 NEO Series (AMD Expo) DDR5 RAM 192GB (4x48GB) 6400MT/s CL32-39-39-102

I dont think they are as "Flexable" as regular DDR5, so i wont be able to push them like normal ones.
But it is my second time playing with 48GB dimms, so well see.

I really wanted the 9000 series threadripper with X3D, if rumors prove right, but i figured by the time i see them in stock, it will be maybe a year, and i dont think my system can last that long. Well it can, but i wanted an excuse to get a new system.
Also i heard the 9000 X3D will most likely be Threadripper Pro's and i not too inclined to spend that much for a CPU and board and another 4 sticks of ram. This system was already expensive as heck for what i needed. I got maybe a tad bit greedy, but not too greedy, as i was eyeballing that PRO, but couldn't justify the 2000 extra dollars it would of costed.

PRO + 4 more sticks + WRX90 board.

You should try this: I have not installed it yet on my 9654 96 core, but from benchmarks on the web, it should do well.

its on a testing / benching setup at the moment.

This is until i can rule the hardware being good, and doesn't need a RMA or a return.

I have a Threadripper dedicated waterblock waiting for it when testing is done:

Its a waterblock specifically designed for threadripper. A very massive waterblock... probably the largest cpu waterblock i own now. It even has specific instructions on how to mount the block.

Im gonna put it behind 2 x 480 radiators, it should keep it under control.

Oh i forgot to note... this thing is the first time i ever seen a board that asks for this much power:

Its dual psu ready, and has a total of 2 x 24pin + 4x8pin + PCI-E 8pin + 6Pin
When i saw the manual i was litterally blown away. You can't make this up, its like asking for a Mr. Fusion from back to the future to power the system.

Not that one... This one

Yeah i know but why would i need it?
After testing is done, its going under a waterblock which im fairly sure is vastly superior then that air heat sink.
That little heatsink is only so i can test the system.
Its pulled from my EPYC which i am borrowing at the moment, until i finish hardware testing.

There is at last one that has 3 CPU_12v connections. No need to 2 PSUs

The board is asking for 2 x 24Pin... and 4 x 8PIN + additional pci-e connections.

It says you don't need it, but im thinking i might if i plan on getting a 5090.
That is because the CPU and GPU will probably fight for power and my 1600W EVGA P+ probably will bearly cut it.
I think im gonna look for another EVGA P+ psu, and just pair it.
It says it should be same wattage, but i dont think it will matter too much, because one of the PSU's has to power the GPU, which means it will always put out less amperage on full load then the other.

I think keeping to the same PSU brand / Model will be good enough.

OK im pretty ticked off i got this warning just for trying to get EXPO working.

Seems like AMD doesn't want you to touch Overclocking PERIOD on threadrippers, which even includes RAM EXPO.

That means if i use EXPO settings i essentially invalidate my Warranty, making threadripper just a glorified EPYC if you want to hold onto your warranty.

This is not sitting to well with me at all. I guess those rumors about AMD putting wall on overclocking threadripper was true.

EDIT 1:
According to TOM's it doesn't invalidate the warrenty:

only if you do something dumb, but it still blows the fuse, and it also gives grounds for AMD to say you overclocked poorly, when all you could of done is just enabled EXPO.

I accept the loss of warrenty on the CPU if i start playing with it, but not if im just doing EXPO.
Anyhow i'll probably accept the settings once i put it under water and stressed it out even more.
But im also worried about ASUS and how they love to go silly with voltages on AUTO, so i am gonna have to manually tune all those voltages as well, so that doesn't happen.

But I do not think i can recommend a Threadripper anymore over a EPYC if warranty is important.
ALSO...

Do NOT buy second hand ThreadRippers after the 5000 series.
Once the original owner accepts this disclaimer, it will trip that fuse and make the warranty questionable.
