My concern about getting a tattoo is it not turning out like I hoped. Sure, do one's homework and check out the artist's work beforehand, but artists are only human.
It's a slow process and (unless you are specifically going for a freehand thing) they follow a design that they transfer onto your skin.
A decent tattoo artist shouldn't be making any errors tbh.
You also get to see the design on an iPad first, then that gets printed out onto a sort of transfer thing, then that gets transferred to your skin then they start making it permanent.
There's lots of stages where you can see if you aren't going to like it or want it changed.
A tattoo like that can be pretty expensive though.

If that's really your back piece down thread you don't need any inspiration AFAIC. That piece is magnificent!
That is mine. Thank you very much! Took a lot of research just to find the tattoo artist that I wanted then I was on a waiting list for nearly six months as she is pretty popular.
I'd take credit for the design but she pretty much ran with my initial idea and reworked all of it. Took about 8 hours and was done in one session!
I'm tattooed from my knuckles to my neck. Some of that work is prolly older than some members here.

Based on the work I've seen, less than half of tattoo artists are decent.

Damn, you're a champ, my longest session was 3.5 hours, don't think I'd really want to go any longer. Must have been pricey too, over £800?
I will not be posting any pics of mine here

Mine was after a night shift and I actually feel asleep at one point! Woke up when she hit the boney bits though!
She scheduled lots of breaks as well.

It was not cheap but I've got it forever, and as it took so long to plan and wait for it wasn't a sudden thing. Can't remember exactly but it was pretty close to £800 I think .

You can see the stencil here, it's the purple bit. They do the line work over that then lots of shading.

I'm aware of the process, my wife has two tattoos. The other factor for me is that I've never been enthusiastic about a particular design, my indifference is much like the time when I was a kid, one day I decided that I ought to have a favourite colour because people do, don't they?

I mean I definitely wouldn't get one "just because". It's expensive, painful and lasts forever.

Also "green", because it's fresh and reminds me of spring!

I was thinking about reworking something like this on my forearms. I'm pretty skinny so I don't want anything heavy.

Not sure what I think of that for a tattoo, at least for me. What would you call the style? It isn't quite coming to me. The choices that pop immediately to mind are French, maybe something like Slovak? or PA Dutch folk art.

That's what I like about tattoos! They are very personal.
That particular one is on someone's shin so it would need a lot of changes for a firearm forearm!

It's kinda dot work and kinda a mandala. That particular tattoo artist does a lot of both those.

I'm not sure that it's any particular traditional art style.

I am on a phone but it looks like the Maori or Japanese manual tapping type of tattoo. Some of that style of work is really amazing.

There's a guy in my city that does some spiritual tapping tattoo style (sak mantra?)
Looks pretty cool. Process looks pretty painful though!

(Sorry about the weird crop, needed to remove the person's head!)

None here. I considered getting my daughter's name or at least initials somewhere, but could never decide location. That, and I could never decide on a font so I stopped contemplating it.

My boss came in for something on his day off one time in shorts and a tee shirt. We started BS'ing before he left and I noticed a really bad batman tattoo on his arm. Like bad bad. It was the classic yellow and black logo, but the yellow looked weird on his white skin, and the logo was faded (obviously he had this done a long time ago). It might've looked good years ago, but it looked stretched out etc.
Often when I see tats I fear for the person 30+ years on.

Heh heh… I'm 65 now, started getting my ink done when I was 21. My last piece was in 2017.
The only place on my body worth adding to at this point in my life would be my chest since the skin there doesn't show my age as much as the rest of this old body. Lol
