All signs point to the Russians not being interested in a cease fire. "What is there to talk about?" is the common refrain I'm hearing.

Fine with me. Keep your soldiers miserable, prone to suicide and desertion. Let Putin continue to bleed the country to prop up his shitty military. Zelenskyy's cooperation was more for the US anyway. American SIGINT is nothing to sneeze at, really something you should utilize if you can. If that access requires some praise, compliments or cooperation with hopeless invitations.... ok. Whatever.

But I don't think Putin will help him. Putin has just done a victory lap in Kursk dressed in battle fatigues a mere day after Zelenskyy agreed to the 30 day ceasefire. He is not ready for peace. He thinks Ukraine is on the ropes and he wants all of the Donbas at least.
If Ukraine's strength holds up, Russia MAY complete its land grab of the Donbas at around 1.4 million casualties.

This was an easy thing for Zelenskyy to agree to. Gear is already flowing again from the distribution points in Poland and he didn't have to sign any land away, nor his Presidency.

Yeah, love how upwards of 80% think he is The Man for the job. That's stfu territory right there. The narrative of 'he's not legitimate' is deader than Prigozhin at this point.

I'm actually happy and grinning ear to ear when I consider how emasculating it must be for Trump, given he's a toddler who craves both attention and approval. Zelenskyy had every, single, person in their Parliament stand behind him and their Constitution, cordially extend middle fingers both East and West. This is the man who had the termerity, the fucking gall to not trade Hunter Biden fabrications for $400million in aid. Got poor Donnie his first impeachment after all. Many a diaper has paid the price for Zelenskyy's image lately I bet.

A real people's president plus a successful war president, a 21st century Winston Churchill to Trump's Neville Chamberlain/Harvey Weinstein hybrid. Zelenskyy has that cred Trump will never obtain, and let's face it, not being an asshole and coward goes far. Trump is like Putin, prone to bunkers. Zelenskyy just wants ammo.

Guys, you're doing it again. Wait for Trump to get his new marching orders from Putin and for the Rug pull.

Until Ukraine either kicks Russia out or becomes a permanent part of NATO/NATO-Next it's all just words and gestures.

I also think it’s important to not fall into the trap of thinking Trump’s actions can be predicted.

The few working neurons he still possesses are frantically forming a new, increasingly incompetent version of Dr. Evil every other minute.

What with all of the uncertainty going on with the ceasefire talks and how Putin is apparently being coy with Trump in this regard, it does seem that Trump and Putin are actually attacking the morale of the AFU troops, something that the AFU has had a significant advantage over the Russians. I really do hope the AFU can sustain this critical advantage given how Trump and Putin are united in their efforts to disable Ukraine's ability to fight Putin's takeover attempt.

Trump comments today indicate that the return of the ZNPP to Ukrainian control is a major requirement for their government in any agreement.

Previously they had discussed this with Russia as a trade for continued gas transit using the Yamal pipeline.

There is absolutely ZERO chance Russia gives up the land bridge to Crimea.
Therefore... if ZNPP is returned, it would be a completely indefensible location should (when) hostilities resume.
A token gesture at best.

I like the idea of holding pipelines hostage for its return.
But something tells me the Russians made a complete mess out of ZNPP and the pipelines are far more valuable at this point.
Unfair trade?

I think you probably need some kind of defensive land buffer around the plant but firing missiles or rocket artillery at a running nuclear power station would invite retaliation in kind, which the Ukrainians are increasingly capable of.

Whatever repairs are required probably take less time than just waiting for new plants to get built. Ukraine could also use the money from energy exports it would enable. Ukrainians also liable to demand its value in reparations anyway if the Russians refuse to return it.
