Several months back the wife and I agreed to get a fancy coffee maker if we achieved some personal goals. We've since achieved those goals and got the machine. For the entire time I've been a coffee drinker all black coffee pretty much fell into the same quality category for me. Flavors varied of course but I was fine with pretty much everything. Now though? I'm constantly disappointed with coffee from random places. Like I just got back from a work trip where they took us to a decently nice breakfast place every morning. Food was great but all their coffee I tried was disappointing. So I guess this is part of my life now...

I'm pretty good with all kinds of coffee. Some I like more than others, but almost any coffee is better than no coffee. I drink about 48oz/day minimum. That's standard pourover, and usually Wegmans "Traditional" canned coffee. When I make "special" coffee, it's usually ground from beans, and made in a moka pot or French press.

Not a coffee snob by any means and I'll take what I can get. Didn't have time to make coffee this morning at home so when I stopped to get gas, grabbed a cup and headed to my doctor. Admittedly, it tasted like crap, but dealt with it because it's cold and dreary here. As soon as I got to the office I dumped it out and made a fresh pot here. I've been getting the McD's brand grounds and just brew that in the office. For awhile I was drinking mainly Americano, but I've since switched to just w/e house roast is available, or just the McD's.

Damn, MSRP on that is $1100? Did you pay full price or get the sale price?

This belongs in FWP thread. I have a pressurised espresso machine collecting dust in the basement somewhere. Can no longer be arsed. Also, if it is not Italian, it is not an espresso machine

We used to own a cafe in Buenos Aires so we had a gas fired espresso machine.

I'm fundamentally low effort with coffee and I only really drink espresso so a Nespresso machine works well for me!

EXT, First off congrats to you and your wife.

Mark Twain wrote that when he was growing up he love the Mississippi river. He loved it so much that he decided to become a river boat pilot. He had to apprentice for a couple of years in order to learn how to read the river. Then he realized that he he was now not looking at the beauty of the river, but he was looking at the fact there was a sand bar here, or a buried log over there.

I always wonder if this happens to chefs and if they can't just sit down to a ham sandwich anymore, or in OP's case. A cup of coffee from a donut shop.

I tried the Aeropress and a french press but went back to using a drip coffee maker with freshly ground whole beans (eight o'clock brand). I'm not a morning person and I'm too out of it to take the time for extra steps. I even have an extra $10 backup drip maker.

That ain't a coffeemaker...it's an "expresso machine." Espresso might be made from coffee beans...but it AIN'T coffee.

We love our fancy coffee maker. Its a Bunn-O-Matic BTX-B(D) ThermoFresh. I bought it in 2013 and its' been brewing one or two 10 cup pots of coffee every day for the last 12 years.

Occasionally we use a french press, or a pourover, or we may get espresso, cuban, greek, or turkish coffee if we want something different, but, 99% of the time, it's ole reliable.

On coffee: I usually settle for putting my own fresh ground into a reusable pod in teh Keurig. Otherwise it is a ceramic dripper with filter or French press. I have not had coffee out and about in many years.

I gave it up for a few years during the pandemic, and drink more tea now. But coffee is back in the rotation.

That's one of the reasons we like it - its at a great intersection between quality and level of effort for us. Just press a button and it heats the water, grinds the beans for you etc. Parts that need to be cleaned are dishwasher safe for the most part. That kind of thing

Espresso might be made from coffee beans...but it AIN'T coffee.
That's why I use the button on it for coffee instead of espresso

Does that use the little plastic pods?
We used to have a Keurig and I died a little every time I tossed one of those little cups in the trash. Got rid of after a year or so because the waste was making me crazy(er).

You can actually send them back to Nespresso who allegedly recycles them since they are aluminum.

The primary benefit of my Nespresso Vertuo machine is that I can have a number of different blends available for a change of pace from my regular brewed coffee that I most often drink.

I have reusable pods for the Keurig. Someone here complained they are a PITA to use. They are weak and their bloodline will fail.

The nespresso ones are aluminium. You can get compostable ones or reusable ones as well.

That's what I do, there's a drop off for them at the local shop.

D^:

I'll occasionally drink instant just cause it's fast and easy, but if that's all coffee was, I'd drink tea. Also my instant consumption is an addition to my pot of real coffee. I don't drink it solely as my coffee source.
