It's so bad, that my company would not longer allow us to bring our company laptops on travel overseas due to countries claiming they can look at everything. This was 10 years ago. Welcome to the modern world.Yeah, I wouldn't want to visit the country these days. I mean, to be honest, immigration can be really scary in every country - I know many people have had unpleasant experiences entering the UK.
But right now I'd be nervous as hell entering the US, even as a citizen of an 'ally'.

Siting the UN in the US was one driver for dismantling Jim Crow. It was deeply embarrassing to the US to have foreigners witness our shameful racism firsthand.
