Get a 8c / 40CU version of Halo on a gaming handheld and I'm a day one buyer.Either everyone interested was too slow and still waiting for their machine to ship or I don't know what.

Hope you enjoy all 5 minutes of that battery life.Get a 8c / 40CU version of Halo on a gaming handheld and I'm a day one buyer.
I’d be happy to share if I could, but framework desktop isn’t shipping till q3 and as far as I can tell there is basically nowhere to actually buy a 128gb 395 still. Seems like none of these products are actually at retail yet.Is that Llamabench speed? Or something else?
I don't think we have a single Strix Halo owner on here so far. Either everyone interested was too slow and still waiting for their machine to ship or I don't know what. It's bad for a forum when the latest hardware isn't owned by even a single person. And the main site is dead.
No, two possibilities for Strix Halo.Seeing the wild consumer interest, AMD may be planning to release Strix Halo with quad channel DIMM slots. Tons and tons of people must be requesting them for up to 1 TB RAM support for LLMs.
Better yet, how about dual socket Strix Halo with 2 TB RAM
This is what the LPCAMM2 is made for. Is just that... there is like no interest in it.No, two possibilities for Strix Halo.
Either the CPU will be soldered into custom motherboards, that are for PCs from Dell, HP, Lenovo, ETC, or the CPU will be soldered into standard Mobo form factor like the one from Framework.
In both cases - it will come already with RAM.
Because there is not really that high interest from consumers. This is what the LPCAMM2 is made for. Is just that... there is like no interest in it.
OEMs are more interested in pairing string halo with RTX 3050 than designing a 100-120W mini desktop version. This is what the LPCAMM2 is made for. Is just that... there is like no interest in it.
Yeah i agree, 64GB of ram is fine for the 395... 128GB is far too much for me.Because there is not really that high interest from consumers.
395 comes with 64 GB of RAM. And you might argue, thats plenty enough for vast majority of users. Its the amount of RAM that reneders RAM upgrade'ability moot, because you will faster upgrade the APU, than you will run out of RAM.
RAM upgradeability is useful when you do not have enough RAM. But 64 and 128 GB pools are way more than enough for foreseeable future.
i posted a q&a vid with nirav from framework in the laptop/mobile forum. FW asked amd for lpcamm on the strixHalo for the desktop. amd had a higher up engineer work on it for weeks to a month, cant be done without cutting the memory bandwidth by 50%. without the bw there is no point in the gpu side for gaming or memory for ai.This is what the LPCAMM2 is made for. Is just that... there is like no interest in it.
Not usable for 256b parts. This is what the LPCAMM2 is made for
No but at 256b you'll be sacrificing the speed.LPCAMM2 can only work with 128bit?

You physically can't pair a dGFX with Strix Halo.OEMs are more interested in pairing string halo with RTX 3050 than designing a 100-120W mini desktop version.
Nonsense. The chip does spectacularly at 35W. Get a 99kW.h battery in there and I'm good for >2.5 hours.Hope you enjoy all 5 minutes of that battery life.
No link larger than x4 lane? You physically can't pair a dGFX with Strix Halo.
It doesn't have platform support for it.
How are you gonna fit that into a handheld?Nonsense. The chip does spectacularly at 35W. Get a 99kW.h battery in there and I'm good for >2.5 hours.
The rog ally x has an 80Whr battery, it can run up to 30W, and it weighs 1.5lbs.How are you gonna fit that into a handheld?
In that case Strix Halo is safe for now. Wish AMD did the same for Strix Point. Most of Strix Point laptops are paired with a Nvidia gpu.I think it was said somewhere that Strix Halo explicitly says it does not support external GPU. Which is one way for AMD to prevent a monstrosity (like you suggest) from becoming an OEM product.
AMD intends Strix Point and other APUs of this class to be paired with their own GPUs. OEMs want those APUs to be pairedwith Nvidia GPUs. So AMD having choice of earning money for one product, over none always will pick earning money for one product, over none.In that case Strix Halo is safe for now.
