It seems kind of pointless to buy so much extra car if it's just 2 of you for some normal in-town driving.
We plan on having kid(s) in the next few years, and we have a large dog (why we want a third row, or at least a roomy cargo area). We are also active and haul a lot (skis, snowboard, bikes, other gear), so having extra room is a bonus. We also keep vehicles for 10+ years, so we want something to grow into. Her Escape is a 2014 and hopefully it lasts a couple more years, but we're getting an idea of what we want now. I just don't want to work on it when things start to break, I do that enough with my fun car.
Sienna hybrid. Three row SUV sacrifices second row leg room.
Kia Carnival is a minivan styled to look like a SUV
She won't go for a minivan, even though I like 'em. You can get a lot for the money with those things. But still, the Sienna Hybrid isn't a PHEV, and looks to be similar to the 4Runner and (Grand) Highlander Hybrids.
Or watch KIA ev9 lease deals and go full EV, they pop up for really good deals off and on.
I don't think we're ready for full EV just yet. We live in Western NY and the range hit EVs take in the winter is not ideal, especially if we decide to go visit her parents or go skiing 2hrs away. Garage space is taken in the summer, and road trips are beyond the typical range and we are the splash-and-go types when we stop. I'm excited to see what the future brings with faster charging and better battery tech though. PHEV seems like the sweet spot for us right now.
I should clarify while we do typically stay around town during the week, we do occasionally drive an hour to visit parents or 2.5 hours to her parent's summer house or 4 hours to my parent's cottage. I just like the idea of not having to use gas during the week with a PHEV.
