There is an article discussing that scenario. Here is a sample from it:

What happens if fighting begins?
Some need to wake up a bit when it comes to this. There won't be an insurgency because Trump won't want one, he'll just kill the citizens en masse. He sees himself as a Putin, so see what Putin does and understand that's what he will do.

Just absolutely divorced from any sort of reality.

Trump told the executives that the White House would look unfavorably on such a move, leaving some of them rattled and worried they would face punishment if they increased prices, people with knowledge of the call said.
Instead, Trump said, they should be grateful for his elimination of what he called President Joe Biden’s electric-vehicle mandate, which involved subsidies and emissions requirements to encourage electric-car production. He made a lengthy pitch for how they would actually benefit from tariffs, two people on the call said, adding that he was bringing manufacturing back to the U.S. and was better for their industry than previous presidents.

An executive at one of the automakers said they were baffled by the desire to both impose tariffs—but also tell car companies they couldn’t raise prices.
“The math would tell you, that’s going to cost us multibillions of dollars,” the executive said. “So who pays for that?”

This is so Venezuela... USA will ruin the dollar and going Cripto will fail hard, maybe is a smokescreen while they hoard all the US gold.

Oh well famously adept international diplomat JD Vance is on the case. Carney should turn off the power every time Vance is on TV and even says the word "Canada".

Didn't DOGE fire/ lay off a ton of federal contractors?

Were some of them responsible for food for the armed forces?

I hadn't even thought of this but that is one sure fire way to make a country lose a war.. creating a shortage of food for the army.

And Canada isn't exactly known for great swaths of arable land.

Tariff Man shall not be denied.

Trump pushes aides to go bigger on tariffs as key deadline nears

But Trump continues to muse to advisers that his administration should continue to escalate the trade measures and has in recent days revived the idea of a universal tariff that would apply to most imports, regardless of their country of origin, the people said, speaking on the condition of anonymity to describe private discussions.
In public and private, the president has said tariffs represent a win-win that will bring manufacturing jobs back to the United States and fill federal coffers with trillions of dollars in new revenue. He has also said he thinks he made a mistake in allowing advisers to talk him out of bigger tariffs during his first term, the people said, and that he thinks a single, simple duty on most imports could help prevent exemptions from weakening their impact. It’s unclear how seriously that proposal is being considered.

Staffers: Sir, we need to do some better messaging on rising prices.

Trump: No problem!

Trump says he ‘couldn’t care less’ if automakers raise prices due to tariffs, says he believes it will make people buy American-made cars

The president said that he “couldn’t care less” if foreign automakers raised prices after he announced that he would impose 25% tariffson all foreign-made automobiles.

Asked what his recent message was to motor industry CEOs, and if he warned them against raising prices, Trump said, “The message is congratulations, if you make your car in the United States, you’re going to make a lot of money. If you don’t, you’re going to have to probably come to the United States, because if you make your car in the United States, there is no tariff.”

When pressed if he told CEOs not to raise prices, as reported in the The Wall Street Journal, Trump added, “No, I never said that. I couldn’t care less if they raise prices, because people are going to start buying American-made cars.”

Trump continued, “I couldn’t care less. I hope they raise their prices, because if they do, people are gonna buy American-made cars. We have plenty.”

Asked if he was concerned about car prices going up, Trump said, “No, I couldn’t care less, because if the prices on foreign cars go up, they’re going to buy American cars.”

And the cars with the most American content, are not made by American car companies. Other than Tesla, and they aren't affordable, and they aren't selling much at the moment.

Toyota and Honda will fair better than the big three. Ok with me, I prefer Toyotas and Hondas anyways.

He doesn't even know what percentage of what models of what manufacturers are made here, or elsewhere. It's breathtaking how ignorant he is.

Are you not entertained??

Navarro is an idiot and a liar. The investments required to bring all auto part manufacturing to the US would take decades and many many billions of dollars. STFU about "capacity utilization" because the lines to make a lot of this stuff simply do not exist in the United States.

Here is Navarro doing more lying saying that tariffs are tax cuts:

I posted this in the other thread trying to tell Felix they're a bunch of con men but it fits my thoughts here too..

He is stuck in a 1890-1950's mindset. The US escaped the world wars unscathed, while Europe and Japan were decimated, and SE Asia was dominated by farming.

But that world does not exist anymore. And something else many of those countries now have, that we don't, are excellent school systems, teaching math and science at high levels.

Did you know a Chinese or Indian 8th grade student can do what a college student does in the US with ease? Why the heck do you think there are so many Indian and Asian CEO's in fortune 500 companies? But this administration has no interest in an educated America.

Bottom line is he's good at selling stuff that'll make you rage and a solution for the moment.. but so are snake oil's salesmen. You don't know you've been conned till long ways after when the damage to the heart and wallet are done!

I'm gonna call BS on this having studied a few courses from India's IIT system. They're tough but not any harder than equivalent courses at top US universities like Harvard, Berkeley, or MIT.

From what I gathered by travelling there circa 2008-2010 around New Delhi the kids were being taught:

Advanced geometry/ trignometry in grade 6
Algebra/ logs/ logarithms in grade 7
Calculus in grade 8

I don't think it's BS.. it's just they expect more from their kids. IIRC they said they teach em because they have really hard tests to get into the higher grades and college.

That's not to say they have a perfect system.. I remember them complaining they had to learn Sanskrit as a second language.. it's a dead language.

At least New York schools gave me a choice of Spanish, French, Italian, German and Portuguese which are much more useful!

BTW I was also in Thailand and the schools there employ english teachers that don't even speak english as a first language. It's a total scam. Infact I didn't even know what language they were speaking but it was not English and they said they could talk in English.

I know an Aussie who was studying abstract algebra and calculus at age 8 but I'm not going to make broad generalizations about Australia based on a top student.
