If we are having a pool, I predict that unless you use it to do a lot of compression and decompression, be it games or big video files or something, you rapture lake will make it to the 5 year warranty.

We seem to be a club of 3 B580 owners at this point.

If I needed another GPU I would consider it. Hopefully they tackle the high end at some point.

GTA 5 enhanced runs well on the B580

I'll play on a 5600X3D and see how much that matters.

DF Rich Battlemag review -

CPU overhead gives him an excuse to pimp Nvidia. Starfield has always been a mess on ARC, it should not be used without explaining it is the worst case scenario. Ryzen 3600 is almost 6 years old, and on an easily upgradable socket, that they are still using it in 2025 is dumb. 5600X is almost 5 years old and should take its place for testing.

Hmmm... OK, I have an interesting one to share with you.

Just out of curiosity, I tried a small comparison between GPUs. I have two computers connected to the same monitor - one of them has a B580, the other runs a 3060Ti.
Both machines have the same CPU and RAM. I am convinced both cards are running the latest available drivers.

So I fired up Doom Eternal on both machines. Same settings, same resolution, details and gamma, HDR off. I can't figure out if there are any other settings that make any difference.

Much to my surprise, there is a marked quality difference between the two cards. Aside from occasional flickering artifacts (which don't really bother me) the Nvidia card gives me more details, and better shadow-light details. The Intel card makes the textures slightly blurry, as if they've been upscaled poorly from a lower resolution.

I took some pictures (not screenshots, though) that illustrate the phenomenon. But I have to figure out where to load them up for sharing here...

You can attach them to your posts and upload them directly from your PC. Use the spoilers tag if they are big.

Have you tried swapping cables and inputs so each uses the other? No reason the ARC should look worse. If it is not a connectivity issue then I agree with you there is some settings you are missing.

I entered my son in a giveaway by a content creator for a PC upgrade and he was selected. It is sponsored by Intel and will be on the Z890 platform but I don't know which CPU yet. He currently has a Ryzen 5600X. He will also be getting a new GPU, not sure if it will be the 580 or 570, but he currently has a 1660 Super. What is the user experience like with ARC compared to Nvidia and AMD? Any quirks we should know about? Hoping to get the new PC this weekend.

Daily driver experience is much like the other brands. From installation to updates. There is no built in streaming or recording in the Intel software anymore so you will need to use other apps if your kid plans to use those features.

Older games are problematic. Some run well, others are a bad time. The best solution for the DX11 and even older DX games that run poorly is to use -

DXVK https://github.com/doitsujin/dxvk/releases/tag/v2.6

DXWrapper https://github.com/elishacloud/dxwrapper/releases/tag/v1.2.7500.25

Just drop the appropriate 32 or 64 bit files in the same folder as the game exe. For new games; there are a few engines like creation engine 2/ Starfield, that do not play well with either ARC A or B series. Performance can be rather poor. But most newer games are great. The system you won should have at least a 245K? powerful enough to not suffer overly much from the CPU overhead issues on ARC.

Any particular driver release can be flaky, so if all of the games are running well don't upgrade drivers is my advice. Only if playing a brand new game do I upgrade if things are going well. Or if some of the old games I play are listed as improved significantly.

Thanks! Yeah I assume it will be either the 245K or the 265K. The creator is keeping the specs a bit of a secret, I suspect mostly for the reveal video. My son doesn't do any streaming or recording. I honestly thought he would at some point but didn't express as much interest in it as he got older. Lately he's been playing Rainbow 6 Siege, Minecraft, Fortnite, etc. but highschool baseball has been taking up most of his time. Come summer I'm sure he'll play more.

Battlemage will be great for all of those titles. Please post a link to the video when the PC gets revealed. I always wondered if anyone really wins these contests, or if they pick a friend or relative. Good to read some are legit.

When they posted the giveaway they were planning to pay to have the winner ship their PC to them for the upgrade. I knew they only lived a few hours away so I volunteered to bring it to them instead of having to ship it. Instead, they selected us and decided to drive to us to pick it up and took us to lunch too! They were wanting to go to Microcenter so they made a trip of the whole day. I'll definitely post the video! The plan right now is for them to come back this Sunday for the reveal.

My son got his PC last night. It looks really good! They used a Lian Li case that may be a Microcenter exclusive or something. It's not even on the Lian Li website. They added some custom graphics to the bottom and back of the case too! Here is the specs and some pics. Haven't had much time to play with it yet. My son plays HS baseball and his schedule during the week is rather busy. I'm sure he'll be gaming like crazy this weekend though.

Lian Li CG237 case
MSI MAG Z890 Tomahawk
Intel Core Ultra 5 245K
TRYX Panorama 360 AIO
Corsair Vengeance RGB 32GB DDR-6000 CL36
Kingston Fury Renegade 1TB NVME
Acer Nitro B580
FSP Hydro G Pro 750W
9 Lian Li Uni Fans
Lian Li Strimer Cables
Vertical GPU bracket

I hope the driver situation is fixed with Acer now (their A770 and maybe other models needed Acer's own outdated driver bundle). If not, I would advise to sell the B580 ASAP and get the ASROCK one if possible.
