He's gotta pay somehow for the stuff he did while he was heading Microsoft (his scare tactics and threatening smaller software developers into folding and giving him their IP for essentially free).
It's almost funny, how he got away with, indeed profited greatly from, all his ruthless and ethically-questionable behaviour when he was getting rich, but as soon as he tries to turn virtuous and 'secure his legacy'/get into heaven, he finds himself becoming a hate figure and centre of mad conspiracy theories. No good deed goes unpunished (and every wicked one is rewarded).
