Dunno why this is being treated as a good news story. The fact that these clowns went for Donald Trump suggests that they don't exactly have the best judgement.

Fetterman ain't exactly reflecting very well on Penn State Dems either...

Shit’s gotta be really bad if they are worried about a Trump +21 district yikes.
First, yes democrats are super pissed.

Second though is a fact that I think is only now getting more widespread attention. Throughout our lifetimes Republicans generally benefitted from lower turnout as their coalition were higher propensity voters. That’s why they were always trying to suppress voting. Today though it’s the opposite. Low turnout elections strongly favor democrats and special elections are almost by definition low turnout.

It’s good news because broadly speaking public opinion moves in the same direction nationally. If they genuinely believe a 22 point swing is plausible in this special election as compared to the general while it obviously doesn’t mean a 22 point national swing it implies a pretty major one.

They surely have visibility into the internals of a bunch of state races which, to produce this kind of reaction, pretty much all have to be saying the same thing right now: watch the fuck out unless R+30.

The D coalition is kinda primed to do better in these than the Rs now. However the margins were much smaller in the run up to the Presidential in 24. If they are clearing R+20 or +30 districts that is a pretty vivdid warning about what might await next year for Republicans.
As a country, we really need to be able to do better than <incumbent> bad! Vote for whoever isn't <incumbent>!

The problem here is that I'm not at all confident all Democrats (or maybe even most Democrats) share that view.

I think the fact that they don't is absolutely insane but I think it's true.
I didn't think along those lines when I posted, but on reflection your thoughts seem highly likely. I also didn't think the country would actually vote Il Dunce either.

Could it be that when Americans shit on the floor they aren't now liking the smell?

But then what you like and what you feel you deserve aren't necessarily the same thing. Sadly our real feelings and our attitudes toward them get projected onto others in the form of 'fuck you you worthless son of a bitch. May you fall down the stairway.'

Imagine if the Dems were a substantive opposition party, it would be even bigger. They are getting away with being mostly inept and unorganized and rudderless and bad messagers because the Trumpers are so fucking bad at this.

Jesus H Christ Dems, sieze the fucking moment. Evict Schumer, get some fucking balls. It was like a big deal today because Tammy Duckworth called Hegseth a fucking liar yesterday. I mean thank fucking god, but about fucking time - as in like years too late. Yeah, it's a big deal because the main Democrats haven't used even basic strong language yet because they are fucking pussies and clueless! But fucking learn RIGHT NOW!

- Its slow to happen but I'm starting to hear the "Dems need fighters, not peacemaker's" narrative start to percolate into mainstream news, which would suggest that the internal politics of the Dem party are a massive shitshow right now.

You would think it would behoove Democrats to constantly message when interviewed for anything to repeat over and over again that the cause of their misery and why it's not fixable is the Robert's Supreme Court.
Dems bad is much more simple for morons to repeat.

The truth is the public fucking hates big policy changes that they can feel or understand. Even if they are voting for the people who will do them. Thermostatic politics almost always wins in the end.

My number one priority for Ds if they get another trifecta in 2029 is to pack SCOTUS. Immediately. Voters don't give a fuck about it and its is a prerequisite for any actual durable progress. Conservatives have ruled through the court and there is no reason we can't do the same.
Republicans are never letting go of power now regardless of the outcome of any 2028 election.

So then the upcoming midterms can be the hill they're going to stake themselves down on, have their SCOTUS declare The Constitution and the Rule of Law to be whatever they say it is, much like they're operating under at this very moment only a lot more loudly and violently while Trump spins up the troops to suppress "the traitorous radical left wing agitators who dare defy his authoritarianism". Well that seems somewhat plausible to me given how he and his oligarch buddies have been progressively meaner, dastardly and fascist minded since the day Trump took over and declared war against democracy.

I'd say it's a safe bet when Trump said he would be a dictator on Day One, half of his supporters thought he was just joking while the other half couldn't wait for Trump to prove it.
