Review below. I like it! Doesn't quite capture the OG fun, but I've seen 2 so far & like the colors. No one-pedal driving, which is weird.

Price kills it...$60k base

I'm not a fan of Volkswagons...and hated the original Bus...but those are kind of "cute."

They feel like an Ikea fake TV a bit at the showrooms, almost like the headlights are stickers haha...but they are fun! There's a silver one (very boring) & a yellow/white one (VERY nice!) in my town. I wish they were cheaper & had better range!

Edmunds review. I like the first Youtube comment:

Needs to have a $40K price, round headlights, and 300+ miles of range

No one-pedal diving is weird. Also no Tesla NACS support until next year:

From another comment:

They took two years to modify the ID Buzz for the North American market and they didn’t prioritize a vehicle that could do at least 280 miles in a single charge. They needed to either use lighter materials throughout or pack in more batteries somehow. I saw it in person today and they also messed up by not brining the wonderful European interiors (color matched to the exterior paint) either.

I am frustrated after waiting for this for over five years. It’s so hard to justify spending so much money for something that has the same range as my Bolt EV.

Also their stupid configurations!!! If you want AWD, you cannot get a 7-seater, which means you can’t remove the rear seats to carry your gear plus dog and five people up to the mountains. Why can’t we put a bench seat in the AWD version? Such a stupid decision!!!

I would 100% buy a 300-mile AWS Bus EV for $39k (THANKS FOR NOTHING, CHEAP CYBERTRUCK!) lol

"The Buzz Kill" lol. What a wasted opportunity for road-tripping, camping, etc.! (tents & whatnot)

Are his boots from the bargain bin at Payless or custom Italian made? Could go either way.

That's the thing about a VW minibus - you expect a cheap, rickety (but reliable) rattle-trap. I think they should have played into that. And 200 mile range seems fine to me at $40k.

Since they didn't play into that, some Chinese company will probably beat them at their own game.

It's the colors that make it. I've seen all-silver (boring), but the green one & yellow ones were SUPER fun!

I'd definitely wait for NACS tho; the TFL EV review highlighted how weak the non-Tesla charging infrastructure is. They should have done:

1. 230-miles $40k
2. 400-mile Rivian-range $65k
3. Tesla charger OTD
4. Road-tripping accessories (AWD with full pull-out seats, canopy, beds & tents, etc.)

Dunno why only the UK gets all the dope stuff:

Second trip goes better and there are goats. I like TFL but Roman the dude in the first video never seems to get along with any EV. Seems like every EV vid he is in he spends most of the time bitching. Not saying it is his fault the infrastructure sucks and even the second vid they had issues at the first charging stop.

Agreed, it's really more of a complaint on the state of non-Tesla usability. Shipping with NACS on the first-gen would have zero'd that out!

Just using NACS doesn't get you the ability to use Tesla Superchargers. That requires each company to negotiate and work with Tesla. VW and Tesla have been working on it, but aren't there yet. Superchargers without the Magic Dock simply refuse to charge unrecognized cars.

Follow-up TFL review:

My takeaways:

1. Needs Tesla NACS charger (next year)
2. Needs better range (I would assume 400 miles for a BUS!!)
3. Needs to be $25k heaper lol

Dang, I really like it! Needs NACS & longer range. $70k + $25k CA dealer markup is INSANE tho!!

It's just boxy looking, shorter length than an average minivan or Chevy Traverse, Ford Explorer, Lexus GX, etc.

I've pretty much seen all of the colors at this point. The all-gray highlights the facade design, but the dual-color ones are great! I like yellow the best.

Fun design. Hope they get cheaper & get better range!

But at the price they're selling for, (~$70k) I’d rather get the F150 lightning. More horsepower, better range, 9.6kw on- board power, and comfortable as hell to drive.

As of March 2025, I consider the F-150 Lightning to be the best EV available. It's an amazing vehicle! I like the Mach-E second-best. Ford, surprisingly, knocked the driving experience out of the park with both.

The Cybertruck is really neat from the inside, but it's now a negative political symbol, which creates a vandalism risk, and the first generation is also quite literally falling apart lol. Rivian is cool but stiff, but you can get a 420-mile battery now, which is fabulous. I'd rank the new Model Y as third-best, as they've made a LOT of really nice enhancements to the design & the self-driving is outstanding.

I have yet to drive a Tesla S Plaid, but I've driven the second-fastest one, and tbh the speed trick gets kind of old after awhile. I actually prefer the Model 3 over the S, and prefer the Y over both. The X is still neat...Delorean minivan, haha! Kia has some great models. Very curious to see how the Hyundai IONIQ 9 fares. Some great factory videos were just released:
