Some people just don't like math, and aren't particularly good at it. What got me to learn math was needing to use math. I learned enough to perform the tasks I needed to accomplish, and not a bit more. The need for math made it interesting. Once you get beyond the basics, most people can get through life with a gradeschool education. Would higher math be occasionally useful? Yes, but it'll be long forgotten when it's needed because it's only occasionally useful.

Me, who doesn't like math, isn't good at math, and remembers zero algebra(the highest math I took in school). I do know the trig I need to know, and I learned that by myself. I'm way closer to death than birth, and I made it through life fine.
