The only legal method I see is he gets a cabinet position in 2029. Gets named the designated survivor and they kill off everyone at SOTU. And the US has a far bigger problem than him serving a 3rd term

No blue state will put him on the ballot. He knows if lives through this term there will be state investigations into his activities and more charges. He will pardon himself of federal crimes as president.

Not if I can help it.

That's what it may come down to.. how many of us oppose him.

Even with MAGA backing him.. I'm hoping they realize the only way they have this Trumpistan is if they split the country into places they can control and places they can't control.

And that's something while I actually wouldn't mind.. but it'll be very hard to convince politicians that it is a gift for the blue states to kick the red states to the curb!

Latest thing I heard about this is from a Time interview article whereby on the premise that Vance wins the next presidential election, Trump will be his VP pick. Then Vance resigns and Trump takes his place. Of course, this plan is full of holes and it's just as ludicrous as those many other "plans" that the Republicans have dreamed up to keep him in the White House. However, Trump's lackey majority in the SCOTUS is key toward making that plan bear fruit and based on their past run in with the Constitution, there is a plausible chance they'll stomp on it like they did with that Presidential Immunity ruling they custom tailored for Trump's desire to rule the nation as Putin does Russia.

Let's see what his approval ratings are after the markets and the overall economy are in the shitter.

If there is a free and fair election in 2026, and then 2028, if he can win as VP or whatever Putin-esque shenanigans the Republicans pull, then fuck it, whatever at that point.

If there are that many US citizens who want a dictator for life, there really isn't a country left for me to care about.

In most ways it seems to me that won't really affect the outcome of an election that's happening more than three years from now. Worst case scenario is if P2025<---(heh, looks like an automotive OBDII fault code) is in full force before the mid-terms, the right to vote will have become a hollowed out meaningless process in name only where the process will rigged and bulletproofed against any course of action that the Constitution and the follow up voting rights amendments will be able to take against it.

Let hope obesity and his diet make this totally mote...
Novo Nordisk makes Ozempic. That is a Danish company aka. Denmark. I can only imagine the fight over Greenland could suddenly lead to Trump losing his Ozempic prescription. He would have to change to Mounjaro or Wegovy.

OK, graphic people, here is a challenge.

A side by side picture of dictators, shirtless on their favorite steed.
  • Putin, shirtless on a horse
  • Trump, shirtless on a golf cart.
My apologies to those that are now looking for the bottle of bleach to pour in their eyes just at the thought.

Declare war during year 4, declare state of emergency, use emergency powers to halt elections, declare martial law to quell protests and any elected official who either speaks out or refuses to participate (night of long straws? French fries? Whatever).

If Trump lines it up somehow, Dems should line up Obama the same way. Even if they don't pull the trigger and put him in office again.

Pulling the trigger will be the only option at that point and we aren’t talking about Obama.

This was definitely a dumb idea to announce this so soon. There is already so much change going on and resistance to it, now you have to throw this in as well?

I am not sure he is thinking anything through.

I remember talk by the (R)s that since FelonKing Donnie disn't serve two CONSECUTIVE terms, they were going to try for a constitutional amendment that would allow a president to serve a third term as long as there was a different president between term one and two.

Constitutional amendments are notoriously difficult to pass...as they should be. I don't see this happening.

Your issue is with his timing here? Like you'd have given him a pass if was fucking things up one at a time rather that all at once?

You dont get it because you are not here. First the changes, wait for things to settle down, then you hit the crazy button a few years from now, not right now. Its like he is deliberately creating chaos at this point ... or he is being asked crazy questions and he is entertaining any idea thrown at him.

I thought the biggest hole in that (and I think this was in the OP linked article) is that the 12th Amendment says you can't run for VP if you don't meet the qualifications for being President. Which seems to imply if you are excluded by term limits from being elected President you can't run as VP either.

Though, thinking about it, maybe the Supremes could finesse the point, on the grounds that the 22nd talks about not being eligible to be elected President, while the rules about being VP say you can't if you aren't eligible to be President. Seems like some sloppy wording there, that allows a loophole [Sheesh, why didn't Constitutional drafters think more carefully about these things? It seems like a very slapdash document].
