You dont get it because you are not here. First the changes, wait for things to settle down, then you hit the crazy button a few years from now, not right now. Its like he is deliberately creating chaos at this point ... or he is being asked crazy questions and he is entertaining any idea thrown at him.
He is throwing this out now to divert Americans' energy to focus on unconstitutional bullshit four years out and away from the unconstitutional bullshit he is engaged in right now. The time to stop Trump's treasonous criminality is now, not in 2028.

We don't have to invent convoluted scenarios that might be clever and let him do it, or even argue against his idiocy. No need to entertain bs. We can just take the Constitution by what it says and how we read it plainly and say "fuck no."

But it's not up to "us" (by which I mean whoever you mean by "we" in the above - obviously doesn't include me as I'm not even a US citizen).

The decision as to what the Constitution says is down to Trump's loyal minions on the Supreme Court. It apparently means whatever they say it means (which makes them the absolute monarchs, it seems to me, but that's the system you lot seem to have gone with).

If you find this news shocking, then you haven't been paying attention.

The way SCOTUS ruled on the Colorado/14th amendment case should have told you this was coming. That decision really lends itself to him just going ahead and running, and SCOTUS again saying that it's up to congress (after the fact) to enforce the amendment.

No. The issue is legitimacy. When the court strays too far from what words mean in clear clauses, it doesn't matter what they try to claim, people will and still can view it as illegitimate and undercut the power.

Remember that laws and constitutions only have power if people collectively and individually believe and act like they do. SCOTUS is doing itself no favors when it ignores plain meaning and tries to divine out some "originalist" gobbly nonsense.

It's also separate from what I'm talking about. We don't need fleets of op eds to defend what the words say. We just keep it simple: you get 2 terms max.

Edit:
Apparently, gobbly g__k translates on the forum to "divine patriot".

This was definitely a dumb idea to announce this so soon. There is already so much change going on and resistance to it, now you have to throw this in as well?

I am not sure he is thinking anything through.
"dumb idea to announce this so soon"... THAT's your problem with this?
Sounds like you're okay with him on a 3rd term?

The idea is dumb, period.

But to add more resistance to the changes you are implementing, throw this additional wrench into the machine...3 years early...because there simply is not enough resistance out there.

Heck no. If he does get away with it, other people will try the same thing.

As mentioned I my first post. This is the crazy button. It is something you do not do and to even suggest it...is crazy...especially with all the crazy things you have going on.

A mentally competent person, at this point, might suspect that he has no idea what he's doing. But not our dear Felix!

This clown is crazy and I am genuinely concerned that the United States won't have a democracy in four years time.

What scares me a lot is that so many people are ok with this as long as it is "their side" that does it. And we aren't talking about Joe Bubba from Redneck, Arkansas. We are talking about senators and supreme court judges. Terrifying.

American democracy has never been tested so much since the 1860s.

Indeed. I was fearing Canada was heading down the same path. Luckily all this tariff talk has united Canadians from moving RWNJ

MAGA will persist. We will win nothing by focusing on the man instead of the foundation of his church, and its members.
It will, but its power today is in the sick charismatic appear of Trump to the room temperature IQ gang. Vance, MTG, Bobert, and their ilk are hard core MAGA, but are just dolts that even the room temp IQ gang don't fawn over.

If Trump lines it up somehow, Dems should line up Obama the same way. Even if they don't pull the trigger and put him in office again.
I don't know why liberals think there will ever be fair elections again in this nation. This is a totalitarian state that will eventually fall, but it will not be from the ballot box.

Four years? We don't have a damn democracy right now. It died the second Fat Hitler started impounding congressionally allocated funds in January. This nation is dead, we still have the same flag and anthem but we are now a fascist dictatorship.

This is just more distraction from Trump to take the heat off of his admins total incompetence with regards to classified info.

You’d think that not only the media would figure this out but so would the members on this forum.

Choosing to try and cover the flying of a red flag with another red flag isn't really a distraction.

The absolute best case scenario you can expect from the classified docs scandal is for Trump to get butthurt by negative press and forces (most likely, because she's a woman) Tusli Gabbard to resign. That's it. After that they'll probably be a little more careful when using unapproved messaging apps on unsecured devices. On its own, that scandal isn't going to change jack shit, this administration has done ten times worse already, and relative to other administrations this scandal is worse than average but nothing that other administrations wouldn't "fix" with a resignation or two.

The best that Americans can hope for right now is that the next election result would be allowed to stand if the electorate doesn't choose Trump. For that scenario to happen, the people who decided to put their heads in the sand in the last election need to be rallied, and for that to happen, the President talking once again about sidestepping the Constitution and the classified docs scandal are valid talking points. Then when the election nullification happens, the next step is mass insurrection.

MAGA mindset:

An insurrection to violate the Constitution and the Rule of Law: Good because Trump's election was stolen from him. (as if)

An insurrection to stop the violators of the Constitution and the Rule of Law: Fucking liberal commies are attacking Trump again. To Arms! To Arms!

That's what he has always done. Twenty things at once that would have each sunk any other presidency all so people don't talk about the 25% sales tax he's introducing tomorrow.
