Apart from the Trump musings on this the legal academy coming out and being like "well maybe if" on an incredibly clear cut issue is infuriating.
Any lawyer who pens an op ed or substack post to that effect should be welded into the hold of an old freighter that the Navy then uses for target practice.

The legal profession has a lot of cleaning up to do. So, so much damage has been done to America by unscrupulous lawyers who find it fun to try and wordsmith their way to a preferred policy outcome.

Trump wants to get rid of elections to be perpetual.... only to be replaced by a young dictator.

He did say you won't have to vote again.

Cue the Trump dynasty, modeled on the NK Kim dynasty.

It was printed on the box.

NYTimes in article made note of the fact that he says this at least partly (I think really mainly) to deflect the onus on any 2nd term president of being a lame duck, which he is, more and more every day.

It's why I didn't apply to law school. My score on the LSAT was good enough.

Anyone know what has happened to Roman Mars and the "what Trump can teach us about Constitutional law" podcast? I was a fan of that one, but why hasn't it restarted, given the _vast_ amount of teaching material that has been generated in the last five months? Has Mars (and that Constitutional law expert academic who co-hosted it) been carted off to a camp somewhere? Or are they scared of that happening?

I don't know what they said in the past but also I'm not really sure what a podcast about constitutional law would be anymore. This is not because SCOTUS makes rulings I disagree with, it's because they are very clearly making it up as they go along.

'Constitutional law is whatever six right wing Catholics decide it is today' is really all you need to know. Remember, these are the same people who within one year said that the president exceeded his power when he forgave loans despite crystal clear language giving him exactly that power and then turned around and said the president can kill anyone he wants, for any reason he wants. It's just not a serious institution anymore.

I think Trump is hoping to fuck with your mind until you drop dead. Long long ago my Father told me it's a matter of mind over matter and that I had no mind and it didn't matter. What that tells me is that me and Tronald Dump aren't worth a single brain cell and in his case anything he says or does doesn't amount to a hill of beans. He'll always be a self important asshole as long as we make it worth his while. Who is this third term seeker of which you speak. I just hope he doesn't get between me and the sun when I'm blissed out enjoying those warm rays. Remember, form is here emptiness, emptiness form.

Suddenly I've flashed back so so many year hitchhiking in the SW desert with a good friend. We got picked up by a drunken Indian who would weave over and over from the edge of the road to the white line. Watching this happen like a pianist's metronome, the bottle missed his mouth and he shouted, I spilled bear on my cock. What a joy to be alive riding the flow........... safe in the clumsy hands of a bear spilling Indian with masterful driving skills. I wish I could thank him somehow for the wonderful joy he gave me.

He won't run again - He just enjoys scaring the fuck out of people who don’t support him. And I’m not worried about Vance (or anyone else) running and resigning - who the fuck would resign after they were elected so a fully demented pants shitting Trump could have a third term? so subservient to an 82-year-old dementia patient that they’d put themselves through running for president, and winning, just to immediately hand it over to him? Especially not an amoral opportunist like Vance, who probably wouldn’t hesitate to have Trump thrown in Gitmo if he had the power to.

It is obvious to the average third grader that, short of an amendment, Trump is not eligible to run for a third term. Yes its possible for the rule of law to deteriorate so badly that he could run and he could get two stooges to run for president and vice president. Get a Republican House elected. Get himself named Speaker. Order the president and vice president to resign. Walk back into the White House. The strategy of Trump’s handlers is to let Trump say irrational things so all the attention is on those things, while they work quietly behind the scenes to actually accomplish their goals of promoting authoritarianism and plutocracy. Trump is their idiot distraction so nobody notices all the evil things Trump’s handlers are quietly doing behind the scenes.

I'm not entirely convinced by that. If it were the case, why are they letting him destroy the global economy - which will also have bad effects on the plutocrats (who are the most obvious candidates if one thinks he has puppet-masters)?

There's such a large element of sheer irrationality in Trumpism that it's hard to make sense of. That it's about 'distracting attention' is a theory, but it doesn't seem to cover those things that cause real material damage, including to those who might be 'behind the scenes'. Seems more that it's the end-product of a complicated interaction of many different types of self-interest all partially conflicting (including Trump's own psychological needs).

I don't buy the 'distraction' argument either.

IMO:

<1% of the things that Trump does have a positive effect on those who need the most help in America. The remaining things he says/does are either huge red flags for anyone actually listening, or go beyond 'red flag' content and fall into the category of reasons that if Trump got shot for, I would say it was entirely justified.

One or two huge red flags are all I would need to guarantee that I would never vote for such a person, so it hardly matters to me if he spends his time adding at least one per day for the rest of his term.

I don't buy the distraction argument because Trump is a genuine idiot with a bent towards doing evil. He's not playing 4D chess here. It's very clear that he just says stuff, and every now and again, something he says sticks in his brain as an imperative, no matter how stupid it is. And then he's surrounded himself with nincompoops and sycophants who have their own stupid agendas and take advantage of Trump like a phone scammer calling Grandma for more "bail" money.

that too

Kamala is too though, according to some of our local Trump fanatics. I can't remember the last time she advocated imposing tariffs on a US military base or an uninhabited island... there'll be something though, right? /s

Don't need to run again if you just don't leave office.
