One of the finest actors I know.. could carry a movie even as a secondary character.

His best performance imho was as Philip in Alexander

His Doc Holliday in "Tombstone" is one of the great performances of his era. Fight me.

Astonishing range to go from "Top Secret"/"Real Genius" (super underrated comedy BTW) to "Tombstone"/"Heat" to "The Doors" is probably something that we won't see again anytime soon.

I will be watching Real Genius tonight in his honor. Always loved each of his performances. A truly versatile actor.

The Doc Holiday. Sorry Dennis.

I remember hearing he was so obsessed with accurately depicting someone dying from tuberculosis, he would use a pre scene ice bath to help create the paleness and shivering. This man went through pain for his craft, one of those guys that made stringent diets and learning tricky accents look easy.

He took to marksmanship and CQB like a duck to water IIRC. The guys Micheal Mann had training the cast for the shoot outs were saying Kilmer had operator like coordination and speed, was a quick study. He impressed people that were difficult to impress.

I would have thought the happy ending would have been reversed originally but hey.. it is what it is. Still properly weird that Chris eventually turns out to have the most common sense.. while Neil the guy who did most of the thinking is the one who just end up choosing the stupid path.

In a way he did get what he wanted.. he was never going back to prison!

BTW in a way I'm thankful to this movie for making me hate Jon Voight. Proper asshole even in real life.. led Neil down into a trap!

I grew up watching "Real Genius" and "Top Gun". I mean who can forget Iceman. I also always liked "The Saint" and have had a thing for Elizabeth Shue since Karate Kid.
