Thanks Oldfart. From what I read here and here http://www.intel.com/support/chipsets/inf/install.htm and here http://www.intel.com/support/chipsets/inf/inf.htm I dont need to install the inf utility, only the IAA since I am using XP SP1. Would this be correct then?
Philster.
Hey thanks Duvie! I forgot to ask the obvious...do they really help being XP SP1 is pretty current? and is there anything else chipset related that should be installed. I'm still stuck on VIA and all the drivers that I used to have install right after the OS had gone in.

I'm building a new P4 system this week with ATA-100 drives on an 850E board and wondered if these drivers should be installed after installing WinXP SP1? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

:disgust: Ain't that the truth. When I spoke to them last night they had nothing to offer other than the fact that it must be MS as all other sites were working. Hey....thanks again.
Philster.
:)Indeed you are a Diamond Member! Worked like a charm...thank you very much. Now answer me this! if you will....why did this suddenly stop working? I've never had to disable the auto detect settings before today! Talk to you soon.

I've been having difficulty getting the XP update portal to load. I was unable to access it since last Thursday and just this am managed to get it to scan my PC. It found all the updates etc and after installing the critical ones first (sucessfully) it wouldn't re-scan after rebooting. I know...
Thanks Justin for the info. The way I have been doing it now in XP is unpack the drivers and then point XP to that file to update them. Do you see any problem with doing it that way?

Hi gang, can anyone give me some tips as to the best way to install new video drivers for a GeForce 4 card in Windows XP. I am currently using a GeForce 2 card and would like to get the best install I can. Thanks.

;)Well it would indeed appear to be a PSU issue. I removed the Enermax and re-installed my Sparkle Power 400w PSU and the system boots fine at 140 FSB with the agressive ram timings:
System Performance: Turbo
DRAM Clock: 133MHZ
DRAM Timing: Manual
SDRAM Cycle Length: 2
Bank Interleave: 4...
:Q
Okay now I'm really confused! I upped my FSB to 140 and the system will not boot. It simply re-boots on it's own with the option for safe mode etc. I tried upping the Vcore and Vdimm a bit and it made no difference. I then re-set the FSB back to 133 and it wouldn't boot until I set my...
Thanks Rusty! did you use WCPRedit to enable 4-way interleaving or just enable it via the bios? I too am using the same type and amount of ram with the turbo settings. Looking forward to hearing from you on the 4-way enabling.

Thanks for the responses (Philster and Philibuster are the same person). My confusion is that I know the Intel I815 chipset when OC above 140FSB showed memory throughput losses unless a special registar tweak was applied for this chipset on the Asus CUSL2 board. I am running the...
;)Thanks everyone for your input. It's much appreciated. Funny thing though. When I installed the 4.35's, mine only installed the .inf driver. The PCI/IDE driver must be on one of the later release's. When I bench test this machine it comes up with excellent results. Take care gang...
:)hey gang, just wondered what VIA drivers you folks are using these days. I'm using the 4.35's right now and noticed VIA have released version 4.37a. Any input would be really appreciated. Thanks a bunch everyone.

The Epox CD comes with a couple of monitor utilities. VIAHWM, Winbond & LM7578. Does anyone know which ones I can use and if they are any good? Thanks all!
Philster
;)Hi Tazdevl, indeed you were correct. I just double checked and the only file the 4.35 Via driver package wants to install is the .INF driver version 1.40A. Thanks a bunch for the reply. Just curious TAZ, do you know of a link or something where I can find out about all the different...
:)Hi gang, can anyone tell me what VIA drivers I need or should install with this chipset and Windows XP. Via claims their latest 4.35 offering is intended for Windows XP and I did as suggested installed them immediately after installing the OS. I cannot remember the file name but only one...
;)Thanks a bunch guy's. I went over to viatech.com and downloaded the 4.35 driver set. From what I read it will only install what the system demands. Thanks for your input.
Now to see how this new system works with the new ASUS A7V266-E.
Philster.
Hey gang, do any of you know what I really need to install from VIA for my system with Windows XP (will the 4-1 suffice). I'm building a system using a ASUS A7V266-E with the KT266A chipset. Thanks a bunch.
Philster.
:DTo the best of my knowledge, you have to use the bios that is on the emprom chip that the board shipped with. I believe the boards that have 2 bios's simply have one default as a back up in case of a bad flash. I too really want the board. I know with a drawer full of new parts and no place...
:DNo harm done bud. Maybe my posting does seem somewhat confusing. What I'm trying to say is that I would presume a board built by ASUS will most likely have as the vast majority of thier boards do (have aggressive overclocking ability). All I'm really after is some of the BIOS options...
:DHey oldie...thanks for the reply. I doubt I will go over 140FSB as this means using HOda's FSB tweaker and I'd prefer not to. I neglected to mention I also purchased an Enermax EG365P-VE which is supposed to be a good powersupply albiet only a 350 watt model and also a Volcano II with Arctic...
Hey gang, I'm taking the plunge and deep sixing my P3 system in favor of a new Athlon 1.4 based system. I'm waiting for a new board based on the upcoming VIA KT266A chipset. I have just bought (2) 256MB modules of crucial PC2100 DDR Ram and would really like some help with setting the memory...

Hi Panhead, it will most likely be a new ASUS, Gigabyte or Abit with the KT266A chipset. So I suppose any guide using the KT266 would suffice? Looking forward to hearing from ya......thanks.

Hey gang, can any of you provide me with some decent Socket A Bios tweaking info. I am leaving the Intel folks and making the move to AMD and would like some decent bios tweaking information for this platform. Thanks a bunch in advance :)

If you don't have the Network Icon on your desktop you have to go to Control Panel and select your network connections. Once inside you will have to right click on your network icon and select properties and advanced is where you can begin to tweak the firewall.

Hi, does anyone have an idea how to get Win2000 to show my Logitech Wingman Digital 3D joystick. I've installed SP1 and the latest drivers for my creative SB PCI512 card and the joystick. There are no conflicts in Device manager but the I/O address for the game port is shown as FFF8-FFFF or...
Hmmmm I thought so Rendus. As for the OS availability at purchase time...I think it was either ME or 2K. Neither of which are supported by our IT dept. They only support 98se. I will try them though. Rendus do you know exactly what Intel file I should be installing? A URL would be greatly...
Hi gang, it's been a while since I last posted but I need some direction here. I just received my new office laptop. It came configured with WinMe as the OS. It has some conflicts with some of our proprietary software so I need to re-install Win98se. My question is will I need to install Intel's...

Thanks IaPup, I am using a ASUS CUSL2. Would that make any difference as far as AGP goes? I can get a great deal on a Intel Pentium III-800EB Micro-Processor 133 MHZ or a Intel Pentium III-800 Micro-Processor 100 MHZ. Would either of those be better for overclocking on the CUSL2 than a 733...
Hi Link, can you tell me why the P3-700E cBO is the choice you mention for overclocking. What is the cBO all about? In your opinion, how would the above chip perform with 256mb of Mushkin PC133 ram Rev 2 CAS 2 2 2. Just curious as I'm begining to OC a P3-733 now and I'm not sure how far it...
Hi, can anyone direct me to a good source of reading on CAS/RAS Core voltage settings etc. I am looking for information so I can learn how these work in relation to CPU speeds and ram speeds. Thanks :)

I have a few questions about applying thermal compound. Should it go onto the cpu or the heatsink? Next, should I only put the small 1/2" x 1/2" area like the original or cover the entire cpu surface. Lastly, is there a recommended thickness? as the Intel Pad was quite thick...
