    My neighbor tried to install Norton internet security 2004 on her gateway2000 running an LX chipset in Win98se. It failed to load she called me and I performed the tasks that Symantic perscribed and the thing failed to boot. Now the registery is corrupt - this is aparently not an isolated case...

    try running Fdisk and deleting all non windows partitions - maybe that will clear things out - who know's might have a Linux partition on it? in fact you might want to delet all partitions and then write 0's to the drive just to clean it up proper like.

    First time with Win NT. Question how to install driver on Win NT...

    You can create folders and then on C:\ and extract drivers to them. When you "reinstall", or "update driver" in device manager you point it to the folder with the command line. NT is NOT a plug and play OS so you have to do this for all your non-native drivers.

    It may be there is a FAT32 partition is causing problems if it is still there. Run fdisk from a boot floppy and check the status of your partitions.

    OK I'm guessing you're loading Win98/98se and are using a setup floppy. Is your BIOS set to boot from floppy first? Is the light on the fdd drive on all the time? We need some more information.

    You might unpack the drivers to a new folder labled as such then uninstall the sound device. When windows reboots it will look for drivers then steer it to the new folder. Good luck

    Do any Athlon XP's come factory unlocked?

    Athlon MP's are like $50 more per chip - if you are only using single CPU setup go with a regular Tbird like AYHJ stepping - they are unlocked and OC nicely.

    Thier all copper ones are nice, but benifit from lapping the bottom to 600 grit wet/dry on a piece of plate glass/mirror. The ones I had were not machined at all, but performed well after lapping and were quiet to boot.
