how are they making money in a way that is bad for the industry? According to many in here, they should be getting crushed by AMD bc of cinebench results? Maybe there is a misunderstanding between what actually drives purchases in the market vs the tech analysis people use in here?
you could say the same thing about cascade vs rome. the proof is in the pudding.
amd did like ~250mln of epyc revs in the quarter. In q3 they said 50% seq growth for epyc. In q4 they said "strong double digit". Why be vague?
Intel did 7.2bln of DCG revenue in Q4 and had asp up mid single...
intel is what you call "sandbagging" the 2h of the year. Its pretty obvious thats why the stock ripped. AMD on the other hand - looks like they lost server share in q4, and are set to lose pc share q4'19 to q1'20. Thats why the stock tanked.
Intel just posted record financial results
- 20.2bln of Q4'19 revenue, wall street expected 19.2bln
- Guided to 19bln of Q1'20 revenue, wall street expected $17.2
- DCG was up 19% yoy at 7.2bln, beating analyst esimates of 6.4bln
- CCG was at 10bln, beating analyst estimates of 9.74bln
- They...
thats not true. pc market grew in 2019 based on windows 7 eol support. If you look at last 5 years of data the desktop market shrunk considerably faster than the notebook market.
Maybe thats the case? It's the smallest market within the pc space and the one that is declining the fastest. Intel is capacity constrained.
A tick of the 9900k would be a pretty small die. Smaller than TGL-U for sure. I'm just trying to go through the thought processes.
Yes they absolutely control enterprise desktop. The proof is in the numbers. The numbers are based on corporate inertia. But none of this has to do with the question I posed.
Thought: tigerlake is 146mm^2. 9900k is 177mm^2
given the increase in density at 10nm vs 14nm, why doesn’t intel release a 10nm equivalent of the 9900k.
don’t say clocks - tigerlake clocks have improved. A 95w tdp at 4.5ghz would outperform 9900ks in single thread
don’t say yields. Laptop...
didn't ashraf also say Raja wanted to "enter the market with a bang" - When i talked to Raja at the analyst day he said they would focus on entry to enthusiast in discrete gpus first and then work their way up the stack in successive years.
He said they would focus on top end performance for...
Thats pretty good no? 47mm^2 = 2tflops.
If intel put out a dice similar in size to a 5700xt (251mm ^2) that would be a 10.7tflop gpu before the benefit of dedicated TDP.

Lakefield makes its appearance again. Ironic that Lenovo is likely going to be first to market with this device before Surface Neo.
$1500 seems like a DOA starting price...
yes many cometlake -
new 16:10 dell xps13 is icelake
Acer spins are icelake
though there were other icelake products obviously on market:
Acer Swift 5
Dell Inspiron 15 3593
Dell XPS 2-1
HP Spectre x360
Lenovo Yoga c940
Lenovo Yoga s740
Surface Laptop 3
Surface Pro 7
Razer Blade Stealth 13
etc
Some updates from CES - all intel it looks like. A mix of cometlake and icelake. Interesting to see NEC coming back to the US market and potentially Sony re-entering the market (separate from Vaio).
I'm looking forward to the Intel Keynote tonight at 5pm PT. Anandtech got a little tigerlake...
i feel like the standards here are not the same as in the ryzen 4000 speculation thread :coldsweat:

I didn't realize intel gen 11 gpus had position only shading tile-based rendering (p25). Is that distinct from TBDR?
Here is to hoping more laptop OEMs adopt 16:10 or 3:2 displays in 2020. I may sell my 8 series razer blade 15 and get a tigerlake 2h of the year. I just dont use it enough for gaming vs my desktop.
everything is a strong word. Did you look at 3950x min frames vs 9900k or cascade in that review?
what if my main use case is gaming with some excel and Bloomberg thrown in when not gaming.
