I remember someone in a Best Buy (I worked there for a short time) told me that AMD was going out of business soon. That was over 3 years ago! When will people realize that there is plenty of room for more than one CPU manufacturer in this industry?
I'm probably not going to upgrade my desktop computers anytime soon. I'd rather have a portable laptop than be confined to a desk. My next laptop may have a core 2 duo in it though!
HT was useful on the P4 because it increased the efficiency of the long pipeline. Dual cores is a better technology that wasn't possible in the days of .13 micron cpus. The cost of a dual core .13 micron cpu would be huge and profit margin would be smaller, not to mention yeilds. HT was a...
As an NVidia owner since the GF2, I always thought that's what the image was supposed to look like. I have to agree, the ATI shadows look so much nicer!
I'm a s754 AGP owner. I have no faith that an AGP version of the r520 or the 7 series will ever come out.

Having multiple apps open is not multitasking. When having multiple apps open at the same time, the A64 is just as fast if not faster than the P4. The difference is when each of the open apps is doing something, like encoding video/audio in the background while playing games.
If your son...
Has anyone else had the following the problem where the optical drive tray ejects by itself with nobody on the computer? The timing of this happening is random; sometimes the drive tray will eject several times in a minutes and then it will not happen again for hours. Also, it will sometimes...
Try overclocking according to the guide. My 3400+ CG Clawhammer will only do 2300 MHz before I have to add more voltage. There is a good chance your chip just won't go that high.
I successfully install Windows XP x86-64 edition a couple days ago with no problems. This is a nice OS! It even feels snappier, although that could be because it's a new install versus the 6 month old 32 bit install of Windows XP I have.
For an RC2, this is very polished. All of my...
Sempron 2600+ without a question. Once you get a K8 there is no going back.
It will kill the 2500+, and since it is 90nm SOI it will overclock quite nicely.
Plus, you can upgrade the Sempron to a socket 754 Athlon 64 later on that are still very fast; the platform still has some life in...
Duvie is a known hot-head that takes everything personally. At best he is irrational, at worst he is an ass. Is there a way to block his posts?
The S754 has hit a dead end. IMO it would be wise to invest in a low end S939 Winnie right now and overclock it. If you are not overclocking...
I have an Abit KV8 Pro with all Japanese caps. From what I have heard, there is a sure way to tell a Japanese cap from the cheap ones. The Japanese caps have a 'K' on the top while others have an 'X' or '>-' on them. I believe Rubycon is the maker of the good caps.
These drivers are broken. I could not get the profile settings to stick - it was very frustrating.
Stick with the 61.77s until something official comes out.
If you want to stay budget, consider getting a Sempron 3100+ and a Skt 754 Chainteck NF3 250 board. I'm not sure about memory, but 1 GB would be standard for video encoding.
P4 1.6A Northwood.
Just for kicks I am going to revamp this system with an ATI 9600 and 512 MB of PC3200 for my brother. It was the easiest setup I have ever done and one of the best overclocks too.
I like my A64 but it was a nightmare to setup. I have never had to RMA a motherboard...
