I agree about the GoLABS R300. And it's returnable to Amazon.
The only negative of it is that after a while it shuts off power to a device that's not drawing power. So things like a refrigerator that may cycle off for a period of time can have their power port be shut down before it needs...
Yes, there are evidently a lot of different versions, i3 or i5. HD or SSD, 8GB or 16GB, wireless network or none. This one shows "802.11a/b/g/n Wireless LAN".
I agree about the condition of the unit, very hard to tell it's a refurb. Extremely quiet too.
I'm impressed with its performance as well. After swapping out the HD for a SSD the boot time from power on to the login screen is about 5 secs.
It seems whenever I update a driver I get a notification that the Amtel touchscreen firmware needs to be updated and I'm supposed to reboot. So I do and get a message that it's updating as the BIOS starts up. Kind of strange since it already has the update installed.
I just loaded all the relevant HP drivers and don't see that lag. It could have to do with what's running in the background.
I don't find much that allows pinch and expand, which I think Is typical, but the camera app does.
I took your advice and got a replacement and it's so much better. No scratches on the screen and no bad pixels. The GPS even works better. The last one had me about 1/2 mile away from home, the new one has me right at my location.
I really appreciate the way the selling company handled this...
Got mine but I'm not entirely happy. It has some major scratches across the glass and a cluster of pixels that won't go black. I wouldn't consider it "A" refurb quality and I'm considering an exchange.
I had to get the front panel off in order to remove the screws holding the DVD drive in but maybe there's a way to loosen the drive from its mount. You do have to remove the drive in order to access the M.2 slot.
Keep pulling. The resistance is from the DVD drive's cover which will eventually pop off.
After you add the NVMe you'll need to change some BIOS settings to get it recognized.
I don't think I want them anyway, even for free.
By the way, it appears they sell for $10 less at Sears. So the Overstock deal wasn't even a deal for the pitchers.
