Running a legacy Intel CPU at clock speeds lower than spec.

First of all, if you're going to throw it away, I'll buy the board from you, as I collect retro stuff. Second, the reason there may be a hard limit of 550Mhz is because 550Mhz slot-2 Xeons were 250nm (Katmai based). Anything newer are 180nm (Coppermine based) cores. So there may be a VRM...

Waiting for AIB Vega cards (w/Custom Coolers)? Well...be prepared to keep on waiting.

Is it the $499 or $399 MSRP we're talking about? Same here. Could've had Sapphire Fry's for as low as $220. Undervolt it, and you are within 10% of GTX 1070.

$160 Eth as of now. I'll buy some when it hits $40 or something.

    Recommend a SOHO KVM?

I have a mini-lab of older equipment and a newer file server, and I'm tired of moving my mouse/keyboard/VGA cables around. So any recommendations for a 4 port KVM? Thinking about buying used off eBay due to savings. Would like the following features: 1. Dongles for PS2 and USB Mouse/Keyboard...

AMD Vega (FE and RX) Benchmarks [Updated Aug 10 - RX Vega 64 Unboxing]

If we look purely at density and area calculations, 14nm Fiji would be around 300-350 mm^2. Improve clock speed by a conservative 30% and give it 8GB HMB2, and that should compete against the GTX 1080. What do you think Pascal is compared to Maxwell? Except a few minor tweaks, they're the same...

Yet another post regarding older vs newer CPUs

IMO, Windows 7 didn't feel much faster than Windows XP. It doesn't really offer any significant advantages that a well kept Windows XP system had (Windows 98/ME to XP, OTOH.... wow that was a huge difference). I think Windows 7 to Windows 10 was a far bigger leap in terms of snappiness and...

And Eth had a low of $211 in the last 24 hours. If this bubble bursts similar to how bitcoin bubbles have burst in the past, it should dip to around $40.

Best GPU for Dell XPS 9100 with 990X CPU and 24GB RAM?

You can try eBay or the FS/T forum here (look for a reputable seller). Right now, the best bet would be a Maxwell, as they comparatively suck at mining but good for gaming. E.g. GTX 970/980. But all VR capable GPU's are inflated price now due to the mining craze. Long term best bet is to wait...

    Ethereum GPU mining?

Not the 4GB version, unfortunately. I have the same card, stock bios, 1100/2000 and I get around 22 MH/s.

How long do you think it will take for DDR4 ECC RDIMMs to achieve surplus pricing?

Depends on speed grade. RDDR4-2133 is already pretty cheap. RDDR4-2666 is barely even out and really f'ing expensive.

    Ethereum GPU mining?

I don't know how the other RX 480's do it, but I'm at 1300/2000 core/mem on a MSI RX 480 4GB and only get about 22.5 MH/s. Which apparently from above, is only on par with a GTX 1060 (makes you wonder why Radeon's are going for so much more). Also, anyone notice the huge Litecoin price spike...

    Ethereum GPU mining?

How do you even fit more than 2 high powered mining systems in a single room? At least most rooms in the US are using 15A breakers. So 15A * 120V = 1800W.
  13. D

    Ethereum GPU mining?

Because they were literally 8GB cards with 2000 Mhz rated memory. IIRC, RX 480 4GB uses cheaper memory as default speed is only 1750 MHz.
  14. D

    Ethereum GPU mining?

So is core clock mostly irrelevant for Eth mining? Seems like overclocking memory is way better in terms of hash rate. Unfortunately I bought 4GB RX 480's, so the memory caps around 2050 or so.

corsair lack of warranty and roadblocks

Only time I dealt with Corsair warranty was 2-3 years ago. My 750HX (PSU) would slightly whine only if all 4 PCI-e power were used. The CSR said he would send a replacement and temp charge my card or I could just wait until they got it. Thought about it for awhile, figured it wasn't worth my...

Ok, so apparently RX 480's are going for princely sums. And the best ones, MSI Gaming X's are going for stupid amounts. Is this a good time to trade for a GTX 1070?

Recommendations for Freesync 1440p 144Hz Monitor?

I've browsed Newegg, and apparently all 2560x1440 monitors are at least 27". Are there any smaller ones? I'd prefer under 24". At the minimum, I also need height adjustment and color quality to be bearable. Are there any upcoming models I should wait for?

Intel have been secretly building Sandy Bridge CPUs as high as June 2015 manufactured date...

Looks like 2016 WW05 to me, so early 2016. And this thing has HD 2000 graphics. I picked up an i3-2105 last week, made early 2011 for $17 shipped. It has the HD 3000 graphics. CPU's have no moving parts, doesn't really matter the manufacture date. Oldest system I have is a 80286 12 MHz, and its...

Graphical corruption: How do you know if it's hardware, or software?

Maybe cards just die with age? I have an ATI Radeon X1900 XTX. It goes into Windows just fine. Does the D3D tests and some limited (non-game) 3DMark tests fine. But fire up the full 3DMark game tests or any game and it will corrupt in seconds. I should try lowering the core speed on that as well.

    Is 3GB enough for 1080p?

Yea... that 50-80W is more like -2 to 30W when dealing with the RX 470/480. Power usage only goes absurd with the RX 570/580 series. Gaming X 1060 3GB http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/msi_geforce_gtx_1060_gaming_x_3gb_review,7.html Gaming X 470 8GB...

    Vega/Navi Rumors (Updated)

I can't help but wonder if it's a Global Foundaries problem, period. Fury X is about the same size as a GM200 (980 Ti/Titan X), and transistor count is 12% more. While GM200 seems to overclock quite well, the Fury X is sometimes throttling at stock (1050Mhz, with a liquid cooler)...

    Vega/Navi Rumors (Updated)

I actually think R9 Fury is a great architecture - with quirky oddities: 1. The 4GB HBM limitation made a questionable upgrade path from R9 290X. 2. AMD seems to have terribly underestimated Maxwell. If you kept Fury at 900 MHz, its perf/watt is actually really good (matching Polaris refresh)...

    Netflix 4K and Geforce cards

Did you not read the thread? It's not Microsoft or Intel's fault. It's the studios for enforcing PlayReady 3.0. Apparently the studios are winning the PR wars because the uninformed think its a Microsoft/Intel cash grab.

    Best new/used phone for <$300

How long does Motorola update their phone after release? Edit: I see iPhone 6S has 2GB RAM, and I know iOS usually deprecates on RAM size, so that maybe the minimum as far as an iPhone is concerned.

Are integrated graphics really faster than the 5570 now?

Why is this so hard to believe? 5570 came out over 7 years ago, and at the time it was mid-low end at best. It has compute power about 520 GFLOPS and memory bandwidth anywhere from 12.8 GB/s to 57.6 GB/s. Kaby Lake with DDR4-3200 can do 51.2 GB/s (albeit shared with CPU). The HD 630 can also do...

    AM4 ITX for Ryzen

I use this to cool the 6700K. Originally had the Silverstone AR06 , and overclocking wasn't feasible with that (higher temps and high fan speed). Found it on sale for like $25 on Amazon so gave it a try. http://www.scythe-eu.com/en/products/cpu-cooler/big-shuriken-2-rev-b.html I removed the...

    AM4 ITX for Ryzen

The cooling is okay unless you go for something exotic. I have put an i7-6700K @ 4.5 and rather power hungry overclocked R9-280X there at one point and there was no throttling. Temps were also okay. Right now I just have a 6700 stock and GTX 960. Because there are inevitable trade-offs when...

    AM4 ITX for Ryzen

All the GTX 1050/RX 460 LP cards I've seen are double slot. There are some RX 460's that are single slot full height. I really don't see the point of LP cards, tbh. Single/dual slot full height/half length is much better, as with PCI-E risers, its possible to mount them perpendicular to the...

    AM4 ITX for Ryzen

I saw that on a [ H ] post over a year back. It's still not in production. It's definitely a great idea. Taking a mATX board and designing it as if it were ITX (e.g. using SFX power supply). I think AM4 ITX boards will come before that sees the production.

Good luck finding a low profile AND single slot modern GPU. I think if m-ATX cases can get their displacement under 20L with full sized GPU, I might just from this ITX ship.

I guess never buy high PPI laptop with Intel graphics.

Chrome-cast is built for UHD TV's. There are also several QHD+ Chromebooks available. Malice and incompetence are often the two motives that go side by side, as they are impossible to differentiate. Obviously you speculate on Google's incompetence. From my experience (I'm involved on...

I guess never buy high PPI laptop with Intel graphics.

This is a problem with Chrome. Google has absolutely zero incentive to optimize Chrome on Windows, as they want you to use Chromebooks and for some magical reason, everything runs silky smooth. Depending on Chromium version, I've also had issues with Ubuntu 16.04 LTS as well.

Do I need to upgrade in the future?

Radeon 7970 can still play most 2017 AAA titles on high+ settings 1080p and it's over 5 years old, and it cost $550 at launch. Regardless, high end cards are still bad for value if you aren't replacing for an extended period of time. Let's take the worst case example and assume you bought a...
