Noise from the motherboard (maybe)

You can use a tube, such as one from a roll of paper towels for this. Hold it to your ear and point it at different areas in the case to narrow down the source.

Fixing a screwdriver scar? C1 error after striking MB with screwdriver.

Years ago I had a MB that was blown out by a bad power supply. I put it under a stereoscope, at about 40x and located the blown traces, and simply used a dissecting needle to smear the copper back together. I got alot more years out of that board.

Hard drive crashed with extremely valuable data

I don't know how ontracks prices will compare. My experiance was a few years ago, and with a fried USB stick that had my Dissertation on it. They essentially pulled the memory chip and relocated it to another board. Total recovery for 400 bucks. They don't seem to post their price scale...

Need software to recover pictures of gf's recently deceased grandpa. Please help!

Your very likely SOL as far as the laptop goes. But if you want to try something I'd download the latest hiren boot disk, and try some of the recovery programs there. If the pictures are worth it, I reccommend Ontrack, for professional recovery. I used them for a fried thumb drive once, and...

144GB RAM + MOBO Compatibility Question?

As a followup on this ASUS board. You can't lock the storage menus with a bios password so be aware that a few, a very few keystrokes you can wipe the drives. You need the pike card if you want SAS drives. If your going to fill to the max with dimms, make damn sure they are dual/2 rank...

6 GB or 12 GB Memory ?

Just to be specific. Some 32 bit apps are large address space aware and can use 3gb of ram on a 32 bit operating system. But only if you set the /3gb boot ini switch. Also I've been using an 8 Gb Xp 64 bit pro setup at work for legitimate reasons. I find it useful even for non legit...
