The baits work pretty well if you put enough of them out. You also want to remove any stacks of old paper or cardboard boxes that you have around the house. Corrugated cardboard and brown paper grocery sacks are prime breeding ground for roaches.

why are vehicle inspections not required in some states ?

Sorry, that's not entirely true. Several rural counties do not yet require emissions inspections. In Liberty County, I pay $12.50 for a yearly inspection when they check all of the lights, horn, signals, gas cap and brakes. My PU truck doesn't even have tailpipes to hook the emissions device...

What's Texas like?

I moved from Philly to Houston in 1992. There are plenty of things to dislike about Houston but overall, the people are MUCH friendlier than Philly / Jersey. From what I've seen, Jersey girls are just about the bitchiest things on two legs, it doesn't take much to improve on the situation.
