Interference between ethernet and speaker wires

We're looking to install a noise cancellation system at work and it would require large amount of speaker wire to criss-cross the CAT6 data cable we have in the ceiling. Any thoughts as to interference concerns between the two? Any suggestions on Web resources with more info? Thx!

Try not to get too caught up in the Jumbo Frame propoganda. To use Jumbo Frames every device on the network has to support them and the improvement isn't worth the time invested in configuration/compliance.

Not necessary. Edit the file C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts and put a line at the bottom that looks like this: 127.0.0.1 domainname.com

Using 2 routers for stronger home network security?

The poorman's DMZ. I like it. Atheus is is right about the subnet on the LAN side of the 7004BR needing to be different than the WAN side. If they're the same then the 7004BR won't pass traffic to 192.168.123.X out over the WAN port since that's what it knows the internal network to be. Have fun!

I agree that it sounds like it may be a power issue that's causing most of your headaches. If you do want to give something a little higher-end a chance, take a look at the SonicWALL TZ 150.

Some DSL 'modems' have built in firewalls that they don't advertise. Even if you have your firewall/router configured properly, the modem may be holding up the show. Due to a lack of documentation I once had to call an ISP to figure this out. Have you been able to make any internal services...

I've used centrally managed Symantec Anti-virus and like it very much. You can install client software, see virus history, schedule scans, and force scans all from the deployment server.

You will have better luck with the 865 board but the 915p should work fine. If you have a non-ATI video card available I'd give that a shot though; they're generally troublesome.

Suggest me an alternative to FreeBSD

Ubuntu is mighty powerful and mighty easy. After the install edit /etc/inittab and change the default runlevel from 5 to 3 so it boots to the CLI rather than the GUI.

Limiting DHCP Access by MAC Address

How do you edit read only files in Ubuntu.

Easiest console way to do it would be: sudo vi filename.conf To do it from Xwindows open a terminal window and type: sudo gedit After gedit opens you can open the file from the graphical menu.

I'd only do it if you expect the CD to be unavailable. Doesn't hurt but doesn't really add a benefit you can't get by just popping the CD in the system on the rare occasion you should need it. Seems like a few minutes of your life you could reinvest in watching a good Anime.

Can only connect to anonymous ftp..

It sounds like a firewall is only allowing outbound FTP through port 21. I'd look at firestarter first as I'm not sure the D-Link has that capability.

Hardened Linux Suggestions?

Yeah, your quesiton has already been answered. OpenBSD would work great, or a Linux+Bastille solution. Ubuntu+Bastille would be a good combination of simplicty and security IMO. Ubuntu is based on Debian but is a great deal more user-friendly.
