Simple mistake to make, I don't understand why your router wasn't handing out IPs anyway. I would assume it would be able to respond to the DHCP requests a lot faster than your cable company could. What model router do you have?

It's because you clicked a link from this forum whose target didn't exist yet so your browser opened a new window. Now when you click a link on the linked page, the target already exists so your browser opens the link in that window.

client/host printing with RealVNC

Windows Remote Desktop has this functionality built in, along with drive and port sharing. It works really well too. Only downside is that it only comes with Windows XP Professional and Windows Server 2003.

WTH! Earthlink blocks port 25 to other SMTP servers???

What's wrong with them blocking access to other SMTP servers? There's no need for it since Earthlink most likely allows you to send email from any email address using their servers as long as you're on their network.

You're/Your There/Their/They're Y instead of Why U instead of You ur instead of You're/Your The thing I see the most is people putting a space before a question mark: "What the hell is wrong with you ?" I've had two people argue with me about it, claiming it's proper English. :/

Can DNS use another port?

There would be no point to doing so. None of the computers sending you mail would know to send the lookup to port 53 (if it's even possible.) I dont see how DNS relates to this, unless your nameserver is running on your box in your dorm. They're most likely blocking 110/25 to prevent users from...

If the IP for the source of the email doesn't match your IP, then your computer is not the one sending those emails.

XP Pro takes 3 minutes to boot

Find out what your ip/subnet mask/gateway/dns servers are currently (start, run, cmd, ipconfig.) Then manually specify them in your network card properties.

Can you run your own TLD DNS?

How would the requests for those TLD's get to your nameservers? Sure, you coudl set it up, but the tld's would only work for you and anyone else using those nameservers you set up. Ever heard of alternic (I think that's the name?) They're doing just what you said, but you have to use their dns...
