What kind of OC do you have on your current E8400? I expect the E0 stepping to do between 4 and 4.5GHz on air. Of course some won't even make it to 4. Whether it is worth it or not is up to you. You should be able to get a decent amount for your current cpu so it won't cost that much. For...
that depends. For a regular person, no. For you, just because you are even asking the question, maybe. You have upgrade-itis. You will read all the reasons why you should not upgrade, yet still try to convince yourself that you should...
good luck
Their "next gen" cards just came out. Prices on 8X00 videocards have dropped a lot in the past two months. I'm not saying these are great prices but a search here or at fatwallet will show a lot of deals. Early next year most of these older cards will have been sold off so don't expect deals...
Then just build another one with current parts. All I can think of to add is to maybe buy locally so it would be easier to exchange something if defective. Don't just use one hard drive. Dell has cheapo servers also that should work fine for you.
you can get it at Microcenter right now for $100. Fry's has a deal currently for it and an ECS motherboard for $100. There is a guy on these forums that will pay about $30 shipped for that motherboard. Definitely the best deal currently
good post rockhound1. My dad bought one at microcenter back when they were $50. Nice but I would have liked it if it came with rubber grommets for the hard drives
In for a set. Off to a good start on my new setup w this and a $50 (after $30 MIR) Sonata III. Was gonna hold out for an E5200 or maybe an E0 E8400 but Fry's E7200/ECS combo for $100 looks really tempting right now.
forgot the Logitech LX710 combo for $30 after mir
Maybe it lacks SSE 4.1 I don't know. It has 2MB of cache vs. 3MB for the E7X00 and 6MB of L2 cache for the E8X00.
It will be slower than the faster/more cache cpus. Do you consider paying more for more performance good?
actually, no. The out of the box failure rate seems to be about the same as most other brands.
The E7200/7050VT combo is on sale right now for $100 at Fry's
K. Now a guy on hardforum says he bought an E0 at the Minnesota Microcenter.

edit: Looks like Fry's also has them in stock.
Just for comparison, the retail E7200 is selling for $100 at Microcenter. Those have a $113 tray price (1000 units). The E5200 is supposed to have a $84 tray price. Maybe we will see it for sub $80 soon.
So far a few posts from Bulgaria and Slovenia but hey, its a start!

edit: The most current post says that they will start shipping today in the U.S. This is posted by a person named golfjam, location: CA. I'm not a member there...
I don't know about that. The E7300 has been for sale for like a week and I think if they were all E0 stepping we would have seen several posts from people who bought them.
Nothing I guess. Just figured that is the kind of info a cpu mod would know.
Didn't know you were elected and I didn't mean it to be insulting. It was just a question.
Intel made the 8088. How did you ever become a CPU mod?
Keep the moderator comments to yourself please. Stick to the topic and do not
insult anyone. Thank you.

Don't you get it, LOL? Were talking specifics. LOL. Fart, lol. Listen to us old guys. When you accelerate into old age, you are going to hurt a lot, in this complex real world. LOL.
AMD is cheaper but they are not the best bang for the buck. Those days are over. Only in certain situations would they be "bb4tb". Currently newegg has the X2 BE-2400 for $30 w free shipping. That one is probably the bb4tb right now as long as you are OK with a slower dual core (at stock it...
The cheapest quad core from Intel is the Q6600. It generally sells for $180 and up. The Intel quad cpus above that are quicker but you get a diminishing return for your money. Since you said you want the most bang for the buck and are sure you want a quad get that one. AMD has a cheaper ones...
I will be building a new computer soon and think I will go with Western Digital's 1600AAJS. Its cheap (low $40 range most places), very quick and quiet. Nice size for a boot drive also.
