If anyone is shopping for a Nook Color...

+1 - I ran this last night and it runs great on the SD card. Overclocking with SetCPU seems to speed things up nicely as well. Perfect dual-boot setup for me since I still use the nook native OS/app for books, magazines and newspapers.

HTC Thunderbolt will be here in February. I am actually debating between this and an iPhone. Kinda worries me though that it is the first and only LTE phone until June....not sure I want to be a 'beta tester' ya know. http://www.htc.com/us/products/thunderbolt-verizon

Use second display of Dual DVI for HTPC?

I'm curious about this too. Mostly trying to figure out how to send audio over to the TV. Would I need a separate cable for audio? I have a Sapphire 4830 with dual HDMI outs.

Sun Sparc Ultra 5 OS

yea. I agree with dclive. Use it to learn sparc solaris if interested...otherwise, ditch it. You can run any linux variant or BSD on any decent x86 machine.

Well if you want the full Sun/Solaris 'experience' you should probably try out Solaris 9 or 10. 9 might be better for that box since it max's out memory at 512Mb which might be too small for Solaris 10. You can download solaris 9 for free from sun.com. sunfreeware.com has lots of open source...

Canon SD600 and a mac laptop

I just sold my SD600 and it worked fine on my macbook. As soon as I plugged in the camera, iPhoto launched every time. Double check the cable/connections.

finger command

This works on solaris 10: finger -i | grep days | awk '{print $7 " days - " $1}' | sort -rn That will give you a list consisting of #days followed by user name in reverse order. I guess you could write a script to check and sort by hours as well.

Solaris

Solaris does take some getting used to but it isn't that bad. I work in a lab with over 100 solaris machines and very little linux. No other UNIXs. Not sure what your complaint is with vi...it is just like any other vi I've ever used. For the package management, use pkgadd, pkginfo and...

vox ad15vt or boss microcube. Both a little more than $100 but maybe you can get them used off of ebay. The Boss is nice because you can use it on batteries. Both have a decent selection of effects built in....

Apple I Stat Pro widget says 10 MB memory free, but swap file is 256 MB. What does this mean

Take a look at this article on apple's website link. This will tell you how much free memory you really have. Basically you should use activity monitor to see how much memory is free and inactive. Inactive memory is RAM that was used but the info will remain in RAM until the space is needed by...

Mac OS X Software install on external HDD

I think Disk Utility will also let you copy one drive to another. Then Change your system preferences->Startup Disk and boot from the external drive...

YACT: Mazda 6 owners

I have an 03 Mazda 6s 15K miles....love it. If you're looking, wait till the 05's come out. They have better transmissions from what I've heard. 6 speed automatic or manual. I have an automatic and if I had it to do all over again, I'd get a manual. Otherwise, it is a great car.

Hsu Research VT-12 for $129.99 at compUSA!!!

Not to threadjack but I also saw a thread on avsforums that Compusa was selling off their HSU STF-2 sub for 199. If your local comp has both the vt-12 and STF-2 at these prices, jump on it. The sub sells for $399 and is very well rated. Quite a 6.1 setup for under 350. YMMV

damn. Just bought this setup myself for $199 at compusa two months ago. Very nice, compact setup though. Highly recommended for those which space considerations from avsforums.com, etc. Just add a sub and have a nice 6.1 setup.

use 'prtdiag' That will give you the CPU speeds, memory, and general config info. It may not reside in your path though. do a find for it in /opt or /usr

Check out mazda6club.com 's forum's for some feedback. I own a mazda 6 v6 3L and I love it. Most people seem to like the 2.3L as well. My suggestion would be to do some reading over there before you make a decision.

Agreed. solaris on x86 is bad. Save your money or spend it on an old ultra 1 or 2 on ebay for about the same amount. Download the free Solaris 9 for ultra CDs and have fun...
