Cool Tbird by lowering voltage?

I'd like to cool my Tbird down a bit by lowering the voltage below the default. It's a 1.2Ghz model at default speed, does anyone have an idea of how much I can lower it? Thanks!

Analog and Digital w/SB Live?

I have digital speakers and a Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 card. I've noticed that I can't hear any analog input sources (ie Line In, Mic, etc) unless I plug the speakers in with analog cables. Am I missing something? Thanks! --Hans

Looking into Antec SX840, what kind of PSU is in it ? How quiet is it compared to Enermax Wisper ?

I have the SX840 and the power supply is really quiet. I'm sure they make them quieter, but I don't think you'd notice the difference. You can get the case with no power supply, or with a different power supply, from http://www.directron.com/sx830.html

Is it ok to log into Win2k as Admin all the time?

Funny, I've been using Win2K for a year, always logging on as Admin and I haven't broken my system yet.

Quest: Isn't there a method of REBOOTING WinNT without running through BIOS?

I belive that in 9x you can hold down shift while choosing to restart, and it won't bother to completely reboot the BIOS. NT/2K doesn't support this, however.

I agree, the Antec fans are quiet and do a really good job cooling. I'd get two more of them.

The A7M266 uses an AMD northbridge but a VIA southbridge, therefore it still needs VIA drivers for the IDE.

I find that hard to believe since the KT266 uses a new north bridge <--> south bridge system that should speed up transfers quite a bit. Of course, you can never be certain.

Did I get a good deal on this Antec?

Looks like the 282 has removable side panels, whereas the 280 has one big case panel that goes on both sides and on the top. Otherwise they appear to be very similar.

The AMD 760 chipset ONLY supports DDR. The VIA KT266 supports both SDR and DDR RAM, however, manufacturers can choose to include only DDR or SDR sockets.

There is a special PCI card they make to accomplish this task...it makes ur comp have an extra terminal. Not sure where to get it, check pricewatch perhaps??

abit vs asus vs asus??

The difference between DDR SDRAM and normal SDRAM is that DDR is faster--up to 20% in real world tests I believe. You need a mobo designed for DDR to use it, otherwise go with normal SDRAM. AMR drive? do you mean the AMR slot? It's like a PCI card slot except shorter and with less features...

Would someone hurry up and buy the A7A266 so we know how good it is? lol

Why does everyone think this? Can you read? The A7M266 was NOT discontinued. It was suspended because of a SHORTAGE of the AMD 760 chipset. Oh, and ALi Chipsets bite IMHO. I think that's why nobody wants it. Wait for the A7V266 or get the A7M266 if you can't wait.

I agree with patgod. Make sure you have a good backup of your files and you'll be fine running just administrator. I'm on a cable modem 24x7 logged on as Admin and I'm just fine...

Ehh.. I was kinda dumb.. sorta.. just bought a 24port 3com switch...

Searched for "3com 24 switch" on Pricewatch and the lowest price it came up with was $389 and that was a used one, so I think you did okay :)

Good question, scheck. The stuff Asus provides sometimes works on other mobos, it all depends. Some use the same 2 x 5 pin connector, others use a 10-pin connection (i heard this, I haven't actually seen one) I would check the MSI manual or ask someone using an MSI board to see how they do...

lol@patgod well, only Asus motherboards come with the extra connector. But you can buy one for like 5 bucks here on the forum, maybe even less. Why would you spend all that time when you could just buy it for a few bucks??

Can I change the boot sequence on 98 / 2000 dual?

If you use the Win2K boot loader, you just go into system properties --> advanced tab --> startup and recovery button and select the default OS. Although I couldn't imagine why you would want 98 by default, yuck...

DDR SDRAM and FSB speeds on mother boards

The A7V133 does support 200 and 266 FSBs. The thing you need to understand is that memory bus and front side bus speeds can be different. The front side bus is how the CPU communicates with the ENTIRE computer system. The memory is a different subsystem.
