  2. Corsair rant, my advice, avoid them.

The aforementioned video was deleted. I deleted it because the speaker drops the "F bomb" every few seconds. We try to maintain a family atmosphere in our support forum so we cannot allow this video to stand as is.
  3. How do i do this SSD provisioning?

Just a lil nugget to add here, AFAIK, manual overprovisioning accomplishes the same goals as factory overprovisioning with 1 exception. According to (either LSI/SandForce or LAMD/Hynix, I can't recall which) only factory set/firmware controlled OP can use the OP space for bad block replacement...
  4. RAM

The only way to know for sure is to install them and test them together. It will depend on your MOBO. The newer the board the better your odds. Best answer is, probably.
  5. How do I get faster read speeds with my Samsung 840 Pro?

Look in your manual at the motherboard diagram. The Intel ICH10-R will be the 6 SATA2/3Gb ports. It's probably Marvell based (which is bad IMO) and you'd probably lose TRIM using a device like this.
  6. How do I get faster read speeds with my Samsung 840 Pro?

Words to live by. On X58 in my experience the ICH10-R runs circles around the Marvell controller in most benchmarks and in pretty much all real-world usage. I'd forget about the Marvell controller, disable it in BIOS, and just enjoy the Intel ICH10-R until you decide to upgrade.
  7. CORSAIR Vengeance

What specific problems are you having? And, are you on an AMD system? If you are on an AMD system, 1600 is probably the max mem frequency you need to aim for. Anything past that is unstable for most users. EDIT: I see you are on an Intel system. Here's a quick test that will likely tell you...
  8. NAS Storage

Another vote for FreeNAS. It's so easy, I can do it.
  9. Terrible NAS performance

DOH! Brain was thinking in bits, but I typed bytes. So yeah, my speeds are good. 125MB/s is a VERY brief peak. Averages drop to about 800mb/s on big files. I still need to test enabling/disabling the DOS permissions. Is the specific parameter you disabled the "SUPPORT DOS FILE ATTRIBUTES"...
  10. Terrible NAS performance

Ahhh....good call on the MSDOS permissions, I'll give that a try as I have that same issue. I have been lazy but need to troubleshoot a speed issue. I'm gigabit all the way thru my network but I'm capped at about 100-125MB/s MAX either to or from a fast SSD RAID-0 array. The system has 16GB...
  11. Terrible NAS performance

Deaks2, just curious.....did you ever test with and without the ZFS cache drive? It's been a while since I tinkered with my array but IIRC, I could see very little difference with it vs without a cache drive. That was RAID-Z1 on ICH10-R with 5 x Hitachi 2TB drives, and 1 cache drive. Of...
  12. Old Corsair PSU - OK w/ Core i7 Build ?

You should be fine with that PSU. Up until 2 weeks ago, I still ran an old HX620 on my test bench. Rock solid, bullet proof, and still strong. I've used it with modern boards all the way to 990FX based and Z77 based boards.
  13. RAID 0 w/ no TRIM. Thoughts?

Over about about 18-20 months, I never had any issues using various incarnations of RAID-0 and SandForce based SSDs on 2-3 different Intel controllers. EDIT: Make that 24-30 months.
  14. Secure Erase or Quick Format (SSD)

TRIM is taken into consideration in that article, on the page before the one I linked. The TRIM standard and ATA Secure Erase standards were fully in place long before the article was written. In every SSD tool box/utility I see, there's a Secure Erase function. Seems odd that the people...
  15. Secure Erase or Quick Format (SSD)

I was not aware that this data was wrong or outdated. http://www.anandtech.com/show/2738/11
  16. The skinny on TRIM

I've been running RAID-0 with SSDs for 3 years or so. I've NEVER had any sort of slowdown that was noticeable in actual usage. You had to benchmark to test it and find any differences. This includes drives controllers of various makes including Indilinx, Samsung, and SandForce.
  17. Secure Erase or Quick Format (SSD)

Keep in mind that some storage areas of the drive are protected from the OS and therefore isolated from TRIM. A secure erase will erase ALL of these areas whereas TRIM cannot. I have not tested a formatted drive vs a SEd drive to see if in fact 1 method results in better performance than the...
  18. Secure Erase or Quick Format (SSD)

The actual SE process for an SSD is not actually "TRIM". It's done by sending a voltage spike to the NAND. TRIM cannot do all that a proper SE can.
  19. Secure Erase or Quick Format (SSD)

Do you have a link to show this?
  20. Corsair F120 dead (?) after two years

No, I'm sorry I don't know. The flow process is that you'll start by dealing with Tech Support. Once they approve an RMA, the rest of it is handled by Customer Service. Tech Support can help you with your questions about the data on your drive. Customer Service will deal with you on...
  21. Why is hard drive score in windows benchmark the same with 7200 RPM drive and 10k RPM

^^^ Dave beat me to the punch. ^^^ WEI seems worse than just worthless to me. In addition to providing useless information, if very frequently prompts users to start fixing things that aren't broken and for no good reason.
  22. Corsair F120 dead (?) after two years

Please start a tech support case with our support guys. They'll work with you and address any concerns you have. Thanks and sorry you had an issue. TSX LINK Also, please ignore any derogatory and unfounded remarks posted in this thread. Some people feel the need to pad their...
  23. 128gb SSD vs 256gb SSD- REAL World Difference?

It really depends on what you are doing. If you were doing a large or massive file transfer with highly incompressible data, you might. But, most of the world will never see the difference without either a stopwatch or a benchmark result. You'll see VERY little difference in day to day usage.
  24. 128gb SSD vs 256gb SSD- REAL World Difference?

The biggest "real world" difference you'll see IMO is capacity. These days, a 128 is going to fill up FAST with just the stuff you have listed above. Any drive, SSDs and HDDs, are going to slow down as they become more filled.
  25. Restoring performance on Vertex 3 without TRIM?

Actually, Eric used the term correctly. "GM965" is the complete chipset nomenclature for the entire chipSET, NB + SB. http://ark.intel.com/products/29821/Intel-82GM965-Graphics-and-Memory-Controller
  26. Trouble ahead at OCZ?

My impression is that large companies like Seagate or WD want to deal in high volume commodity drives. NAND pricing is only recently reaching the level where that is feasible for anyone to do. And, they don't have NAND fabs nor do they have any IP in the controller area.......yet.
  27. NAND flash memory might get too dense at 10nm

LOL...trust me, this presentation was way over my head for the most part. Most of it was not info I need to know. Again, IIRC, the explanation is that the entirety of the cell does not actually hold the charge. Only a portion of the cell holds the charge. And, due to the shrinks, there is...
  28. NAND flash memory might get too dense at 10nm

IIRC, I heard at the 2011 Flash Summit that at some point below 20nm, the actual physical space in the NAND where the data sits is going to be down to just a few atoms. At some point, we're going to reach the limit of current semiconductor materials to accept and hold the charge. At some point...
  29. G.Skill or Corsair

If you want to compare directly with Corsair kits that are 16GB (2x 8GB) and are also low profile, check these out. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...CE&Pagesize=20 We made the low profile (LP) versions for people that, like you, need memory that will fit under a larger air cooler.
  30. CORSAIR Vengeance LP issues

Sorry you had a problem with the module. RMA it directly with Corsair or to your retailer, your choice. Corsair RMA Link: http://www.corsair.com/support/technicalsupport/
  31. Intel SSDs - 330 vs. 520 series

Agreed with Zap here. Certain SSDs are so cheap, they are a good option and that Netbook will feel much snappier. I have one in my kids MSI Wind and it runs circles around the old HDD.
  32. SSD Locked During Secure Erase

Load Parted Magic with the SSD not connected to the SSD connector and no power connected to it. Then, connect the drive and see if the erase tool in Parted Magic will secure erase it and let you recover the drive.
  33. Corsair ssd warranty service

The only people that can accurately answer this is Corsair customer service as they are the ones that actually process your RMA. When your RMA is approved, they'll check stock of replacement SSDs. If we don't have back stock of your model drive, they will inform you of your options. CORSAIR...
  34. You can enable or disable AHCI through registry.

FWIW, Microsoft also makes a tool to do this automagically, no manual registry editing required.
  35. Why do we continue to allow so few to hoard to much wealth?

ROFLMAO....mine too, I own it on DVD, VHS, and it's backed up on my server. "Yeah, it would ooze a lot but I can live with that!" It's sad, quite a bit of the cast from that movie is dead now. Marty Feldman died during the making, Graham Chapman, Madeline Khan, Peter Boyle......seems...
  36. Why do we continue to allow so few to hoard to much wealth?

The concept of turning the government into "Robin Hood" is an insane fairy tale.
  37. Please recommend between these 2 SSD's

There haven't been any real issues with stability in the Force series SSDs in quite a while. The firmware is very mature now.
  38. Why do we continue to allow so few to hoard to much wealth?

For some strange reason, I read this entire thread. Like any thread there are good responses and bad responses and on both sides of the issue. I picked a couple of favorites. And this is my off work, personal opinion. This is quite possibly the most ignorant statement I have read in......many...
  39. Lost Samsung SSD Found!

LOL....I am picturing your package arriving all decorated like an old travel trunk. http://utini420.blogspot.com/2009_12_06_archive.html
