    Exactly, Seagate is the brand to get these days, and Maxtor is the brand to not get, with WD somewhere in between. 3/5 of my Maxtors have failed in the last 2 years, only one still had a warranty left. Not hot.

    shame it doesn't do sftp, but it does say ftp and smb (network neighborhood) it should work with any os, not just windows/mac as listed (unless it comes with some weird config software, but is has web config anyway).

    Just picked up a 25 pack of 8x DVD+R for $9.99 (they have minus too for the same price) in Sunnyvale, CA. Nero Infotool says they are Maxell 002 made in Japan, which should burn at 12-16x on Quikee/LiggyDee firmware (Yuden T02 write strategy) or 8x with default firmware for the NEC ND3500A.

    The BenQ is a good drive, albeit a bit limited with the DL, DVD-R and DVD+RW speed. It does have the ability to scan for errors which is nice. I refuse to believe that it doesn't have riplock, it's kind of a legal requirement..... If you're willing to use the hacked firmware for the 3520...

    Here's one vote against TigerDirect! ;) The BenQ 1620 is having some very good reviews, I certainly wouldn't swap it for a $65.50-10 LiteOn that only does 8x -R and 2.4x +DL Personally I'd get the NEC 3520 for $64 shipped from Newegg.

    8x +/- DL 3530 should be around in a few months, that even beats the 5-6x of Plextor's 716 http://www.cdfreaks.com/news/11201 If you have a 3500a, I would not bother getting a 3520, also it doesn't look good for upgrading the 3520 to a 3530.....

    25ms response, mine does 16 (above average) 500:1 contrast, mine is 600:1 (average) 1280x1024 max, that's pathetic for 19", mine does 1600x1200 (average) i don't think this is worth $300, personally i'd prefer to get a better 17" than a crappy 19" like this.

    Pretty good deal, with the Quikee or Liggy hacked firmware, the NEC ND3500A should be able to write to these at 12x, the TYG02's are about the best DVD-R's you can get. It's a shame they're not the DVD+R YUDEN000T02 discs, as they can do 16x I'm sure I saw 100 Ritek G05's for $35 though -...
