Upgrade my 939 system to FX60?

I echo the sentiment that upgrading an old 939 isn't worth the money. I would only jump on a FX60 if you could find one for about $20-30, and even then it won't be much faster than what the OP already has. Dropping $200 is simply ridiculous compared to buying modern parts.

Game installs on 'green' HDD

I agree, shouldn't make too much of a difference. A faster HDD is only going to speed up loading levels and launching the application. Don't worry too much about it unless quickly joining multiplayer servers really matters to you.

Z68 chipset preview by Tomshardware

SSD caching doesn't seem useful for enthusiasts seeking maximum performance. They'll most likely get a 100GB+ SSD and run their OS and programs from that. This technology seems more in line with Seagate's hybrid hard drives, offering a modest low cost performance boost. I'm feeling better...

UPDATE:New board received :Recieved e-mail from Newegg for Biostar P67.

Anyone have any info about the Newegg 90 day return policy? I'd love to simply return my defective B2 board for a Z68 board assuming the timing worked out. My guess is that the previously announced 90 day count down begins today?

dual-cores are now considered "Classic"

haha pretty funny. In their defense, single core systems are all but dead outside of netbooks. That particular desktop offers classic year 2006-2007 performance! Dual cores are now the rock bottom choice when shopping for a new computer.

Any idea what the maximum numbers of monitors is for Crossfire? With the 69xx series I assume upto 6 monitors per card? 24 monitors in quad Crossfire?

U2410

I just picked one up this week, love it! Beats the pants off my old 20.5" Ultrasharp 2007WFP. The colors are so much better and the screen is significantly clearer than my 5+ year old monitor.

I would honestly look around and pick up a SB system, the motherboards are still available. Otherwise the system looks solid, but I'm not sure about the 6 core option, it's overkill if you're a gamer.

Reaction to P/H67 defect - What will you be doing for new builds?

My guess is that most Z68 boards will have Displayport /Mini DP and HDMI . Using passive adapters that will cover pretty much any dual monitor configuration using up minimal space.

Core i7 2nd generation "Sandy Bridge, what's known + future

Also don't forget Z68 chipset in Q2 2011. Should add SSD buffering and support for quicksync and video output. Essentially it's a fusion of P67 and H67 plus the SSD feature.

P67, PCIe bridge chip?

To the first question, yes, all P67/H67 boards use a bridge chip to provide PCI slots. I don't know if it will affect performance or audio quality.

stupid question about Sandy Bridge Turbo

How do I test if turbo is working? I cannot hit 3.8ghz when at stock. I was trying to break my 2600k in at stock and for the life of me I cannot get it to turbo to 3.8ghz. (only turbos to 3.6 or 3.7ghz) I have the Asus P67 board and a i7-2600k. Is there a particular bios setting that I need to...

Any Asus P8P67 owners with 1253 bios having HDD problems?

Just chiming in with a Intel SSD, 2TB SATA 3.0 Western Digital, a SATA DVD burner and a SATA 1.5 Seagate 250GB. Everything works great on bios 1253 using ACHI. No problems so far.

i5 2500k @ 4.4Ghz Good Temp?

Looks fine. However it wouldn't hurt to try reapplying the thermal paste if you think you put on too much. My 2600k @ 4.5ghz and 1.3 volts is hovering around 55*C under full load. Seems like your setup is ok.

If you bought 2600k over 2500k were your reasons?

I whole heartedly agree for the most part. However in the case of early HT enabled P4s which were released in 2002/2003, I think there is a case to be made that they're far more useful than their single core contemporaries.

Ivy Bridge 22nm sticks with socket 1155... But you'll need a new motherboard

P8P67 Pro New Win 7 Install USB Problem

Use the USB 2.0 ports and you should be ok. USB 3 uses NEC controller chips that the Windows install CD lacks drivers for.

Socket A FSB 333 or FSB 400 in a FSB 266 or older MB

The extra cache and changes due to the smaller manufacturing process might cause you issues. The 333/400fsb chips are similar to the older 266 Palominos and Thunderbirds, but depending on the mobo it may not work at all.

PC malaise: I can't convince myself to spend money upgrading my gaming PC...

If you seek to get a little more life out of your old computer I would search the FS/FT forums. Pick up a used Athlon 64 X2 CPU and overclock it a couple hundred mhz... say 2.4-2.5ghz. Add in an extra 1GB or 2GB of previously used ram and then spend around $125 on a new video card... 4850 or...

Questions about Intel Quad Cores...

Vista x64 ftw. Very fast especially with 4GB+ of ram. Like the others said, XP 64-bit is not a good idea due to the lack of driver support. It's hard enough getting Vista x64 drivers for printers and scanners that are a few years old.

For the smoothest gameplay in Source games like L4D, CSS, TF2, DoD it's best to have a strong CPU. But even with your X2 you should be able to have moderate to high AA/AF at 1680x1050. My 9600GT is able to handle those games no problem and I would imagine a 9800 card would be even better. I...

Advice on Gaming Computer

I have to make my obligatory "build it for yourself" comment first. Going off ball park price figures off the top of my head, you are easily paying $500-600 extra over the cost of buying off an e-tailer like newegg. That's almost 30% more in price due to ignorance and a lack of desire to learn...

Oh no! Another system spec up!!!

The rig looks great. I would personally go with a faster CPU if you aren't overclocking, 2.33ghz is awfully slow when most duals and quads are pushing 3.0-3.6 ghz easily with hardly any effort. 4GB of ram is plenty, unless you feel you need 8GB I would stick with 4.

Anyone here compare Win XP and Win 2K in games with any of the new cards

I think the performance differences would be very small, but like others said Win2k is quickly losing support for new hardware. Honestly I would be surprised if you could even get it fully running with current games and new hardware with the lack of drivers and support from MS. With a 3ghz...

Intel 8400/500/600 and future games

I think a fast Dual core will still be good for most games in 2 or 3 years. However that will be with reduced graphics settings and without all the advanced physics and particle effects that newer games will most likely implement. However I think a quad core is much more future resistant...

E7200 What overclock can I expect?

Upgrading from e2160@3.0?

I just moved from an E2180 @ 3.2 to a E7200 @ 3.8. Triple the cache, runs cooler and gave me an extra 600mhz. Not a huge upgrade, however I was able to sell the old chip to recoup some cost and I have a Microcenter nearby where they have the E7200 for $100. Good deal if you're looking for one.

No. However you will miss out on the hardware acceleration that will give a slight speed boost if you run VMs. I personally wouldn't worry about it unless you are going to be doing a large amount of work in a VM environment. Maybe someone who has a VT enabled machine and uses VMs can provide...

Intel's "Divide and rule" vs Amd's "Keep it together"

I'm not sure I like Intel's approach. AMD for a variety of reasons went with multiple platforms during the launch of K8 (s940/s754) and we all saw that ultimately fail. Time will tell if Intel gets this right or wrong.
