think i solved the problem. i changed the channel and seems to work now. i tihnk there were just too many people in my apartment block using the same (default) channel causing too much interference.

    Wireless connection

Hi, I've got an Acer Travelmate 803LMi and a Netgear 54Mbps wireless router. for the most part its been ok but recently its been getting quite buggy. Whenever it detects another wireless network it gets all confused and refuses to connect to my router or if it does it disconnects frequently...

An articulate, fairly unbiased piece on the U.S. budget surplus debate (from Robert Reich no less)

Well, Robert Reich never been overly concerned with deficit spending so i'm not entirely surprised at what he said. He does have a point.. the whole Social security surplus issue is all politics. But, Washington is all about perception, spin and politics... I can just see the Democrats now...

    Does hardship really build character?

Depends. Builds character for some, but I know a few people who just constantly whine about how everything is unfair and their life sucks... I guess some people just never learn.

Poll: Are you willing to die defending Canada?

Ah, so nice to see that so many of you are willing to sacrifice your lives for the good of the country. After all, I'd do the same... Yes, I'm prepared to sacrifice your lives for the good of the country. But guys, you're missing the point. As Patten said, "the point of war is not to die...

There's an interesting Sci-fi book on the subject. "Manifold: time" by Stephen Baxter. Also has a fascinating bit on time and causality.

    Formula One GP Nuerburgring (Spoiler!)

The stop and go totally sucked, ruined the entire race. What a boring season this is turning out to be. What's with Mclaren? Hakkinen is asleep at the wheel and Coulthard isn't much better... plus the car is so slow Hakkinen got lapped. Williams looks impressive but its hard to say how much...

What if there were a God that moved at 99.99999% the speed of light?

Well, essentially if everything he created also moved at his speed... then time would be much slower for him and his creations relative to the rest of us. So what he creates in 7 days would seem much longer for us.

Does Canada have a national identity?

American melting pot? Thats just a myth. Culture in the US is vastly different for each area. Texas, New York, and California are as different as can be. In fact, I would say a person living in Seattle has more in common in a Vancouverite than with anyone in Arkansas.

    free trade supporters?

THis is one area on which there is a broad agreement among most economists. Free trade is a good thing. If you believe in the market(ie. you're a capitalist), its very difficult to oppose free trade. Restricting free trade is essentially disrupting the free flow of goods and services. It is...

Do strategy games make you smarter?

Of course it does. Why do you think I've been playing strategy games all my life when I should have been studying?:) Actually, after a certain age(possibly quite young), I don't know if there is anything you can do to get smarter. You can utilize more of your intelligence and become sharper...

[Q] Anyone play the board game Axis & Allies or Shogun?

Andrew is right, Axis can't win under the standard rules. Japan is almost irrelevant. They can do a lot of damage to the US fleet but they'll never take the mainland, which means all they gain is Hawaii and Midland which isn't worth anything(well Hawaii is worth 1 IPC). THe US can afford to...

    Sakic or Roy

It was a close call but Roy deserved it. He was the difference in that series, as well as the St. Louis one. Sakic had a great year though, and I'm glad he won the Hart. Nothing against Mario, who is showed that he is still the best player, but you can't give the Hart to someone who only...

[Q] Anyone play the board game Axis & Allies or Shogun?

Axis and Allies is a great game... but its too unbalanced. Axis have near-zero chance of winning. Whenever I play, I give them a few advantages to even things out. Its also great to play with mods and totally new scenarios. Shogun is cool too, but I never got to play it that much. Using the...

How do you think G.W. is doing so far?

Politically, quite well... even with the Senate changing hands. He's managed to get his tax cut through more or less intact, enough to take political credit for it. Economically, I don't like the tax cut. It does nothing to simplify the tax code, which is a huge mess, and I'd rather see...

    Canadian GP

Great win for Schumacher! Ralf Schumacher that is. The BMW Williams has had many problems this year but today it was simply perfect. The speed is definitely there, tires look good and Ralf is on top of his game so if only the reliability is there Williams could take a few more checkered flags...

<< By the way, how did Patrick Roy get the Conn Smythe? It makes no sense. If he was their best player, they didn't deserve to win. What about Sakic? >> Well, either him or Sakic. You can make a case either way but Roy was the difference in the series. 2 shutouts, and nearly a 3rd... he...

morals and ethics stand in the way of making money

There are of course many exceptions to any generalizations but you do have a point. I don't think the rich are immoral or unethical, BUT it does take a certain awareness and persona to make it big in the corporate world. Of course, not all rich people are CEOs of major companies but I would...

Ok, Just what Created the BIG BANG then? Creationism Overrules IMO..

Theists are not satisfied with the Big Bang because it seems to have an unknown cause. However, the assumption that everything must have a cause is itself paradoxical. Like someone pointed out, if everything needs a cause, then so too does God. Theists get around this point by defining God to...

Try to solve this math problem.

x + y + z = 100 10x + 0.5y + 3z = 100 In general, there is no unique solution as you only have 2 equations and 3 variables. If you assume that x,y,z all have to be integers then it is conceivable that there might be a unique solution.

Our bloody prime minister sucks the big one!

260K is small change and he should get the raise along with the MPs. But the point is that Parliament shouldn't be voting on whether to give themselves a raise.
