I actually didn't say that. I was responding to your response to someone else. I have no issues running BF4 at all right now. However, a conflict with one's system does not mean the problem is with that person's system. Many games have optimization issues. BF4 is notorious for such issues. There...

Well surely if you can confirm it works on one PC on the whole planet it must not have any issues whatsoever. Thanks for clearing that up professor.

    Battlefield 1 released!

Really hoping the map design and gunplay are on par with BC2/BF3. I've played every iteration, and felt everything up to BC2 had subpar mad design and infantry combat. BC2/BF3 were a serious step up for me. BF4 has abysmal map design and gunplay IMO.

    Any WWII/arcade shooters around?

The two best WWII shooters still around are IMHO, Red Orchestra 2 and Day of Defeat:Source. Day of Defeat is a classic arcade WWII shooter and still has a decent dedicated population, even though it released in around 2005 if I remember right. Red Orchestra 2 is only a few years old and still...

    Laptop gaming, opinions desired...

OP, this is what you want. http://www.xoticpc.com/sager-np8657-clevo-p650re3-p-8677.html Configure it with Windows 10 and a decent size SSD in the m.2 slot. I would go for 500gb and add external storage as needed. That configuration will only run about $1,500-$1,600. If you're comfortable on...

StarWars Battlefront gameplay debut April 17th

Tried out the beta. Looks beautiful, but the gameplay is exceptionally boring. And even though the graphics are technically beautiful, the maps leave much to be desired. They're nothing but random open areas with snow or rocks. I like the soundtrack, and that's about it.

Yet CS's hitscanning much more realistically represents actual ballistics at the engagement distances in video games. The bullet velocity and drop are ridiculously unrealistic in BF4. Using a bolt action rifle feels like shooting a bow. Red Orchestra 2 is a much better example of (close to)...

Any good FPS's on the horizon?

Well it's been a year now. Still waiting for a new, decent FPS to spend my time on. I've been playing a lot of Red Orchestra 2, a little Insurgency, and BF3 still. BF Hardline is coming up soon but doesn't interest me in the slightest. I'm really hoping for a decent 64 player WWII shooter to...

I never stopped playing BF3. Every once in awhile I reinstall BF4 and try it out, only to be quickly reminded of why I uninstalled it before. The engine/movement/animations/gunplay just feel terrible. The overall feel of the game is just off. I only wish there were still more decent BF3...

Anyone else burnt out on flat screen gaming?

Another large issue for FPS games, that has been mentioned by Palmer and Carmack as well, is the inherent motion sickness. People don't seem to get sick using the VR in cockpit or drivers seat type games, but when your character is walking or running it apparently really messes with your...

Anyone else burnt out on flat screen gaming?

First person shooters are exactly the type of game it won't be good for. Competitive multiplayer ones anyway. It's much quicker and easier to flick your mouse in a direction to look at something than it is to move your head back and forth. FPS's, MOBA's, and RTS's, which are the most popular...

Anyone else burnt out on flat screen gaming?

I have no interest in 3D or VR technology. It's a neat little sideshow gimmick, and may be somewhat interesting for a few singleplayer games...maybe. But there's no way I can imagine anyone playing a competitive multiplayer game on one, and those are basically all I play. I'll happily stick...

Do you find yourself locked into one/few games?

In the early days of PC gaming, everything was singleplayer. It was much easier to finish a game and move on, so we played a ton of different games. The whole PC and PC gaming thing was new and exciting too, so there was always something innovative and different right around the corner. That's...

    Battlefield: Hardline Postponed

I'm pretty sure most people buy Battlefield games for the multiplayer. The company may have said something that lead you to believe the focus was on singleplayer, but I think they know where the real money is coming from.

How is gaming on wireless internet these days?

I think some people are misunderstanding what the OP is talking about. I'm pretty sure he's talking about actual wireless services, like XFinity by Comcast. With those, the ISP runs a line out to various access points, which whole neighborhoods connect to. This is much different than having your...

Anyone else ready for a WW2 shooter again?

So this thread gave me the itch to go back and play Day of Defeat and Red Orchestra 2. Check out some of this gameplay. Pay close attention to the sounds in Day of Defeat. It quite literally sounds about 100x better than any modern first person shooter. And the gunplay is soooo crisp...

Anyone else ready for a WW2 shooter again?

Rising Storm is definitely worth $10. I actually prefer a bit more of an arcade feel like Day of Defeat or Bad Company, but it doesn't lean as far towards a simulation as say, ARMA. The gameplay is pretty solid and fun, and the teamwork is excellent.

Anyone else ready for a WW2 shooter again?

Double agree. I just started playing Day of Defeat Source again and it's amazing. No minimap/spotting, high recoil, no leveling or attachments...I'm in heaven.

The AT Battlefield 4 F.A.Q., News, and Discussion thread

This is one of the biggest issues with the gunplay. There's a complete and utter lack of vertical recoil (which is what actual recoil is...vertical). And instead there's this weird "gun jiggling" that happens when you fire and doesn't line up with any of the sights. I think it was a serious...

Several of the games I mentioned are current. For instance...BF3, Red Orchestra 2, and CS:GO. Many of the others are still played regularly by thousands of people. Anyone else ready for a WW2 shooter again?

I don't see this happening really, as most games are developed in countries that were either taken over by Germans, or whose populace bled and died fighting them. Even the Germans themselves now are appalled by what their fathers/grandfathers did during that time. People want to play as heroes...

    Battlefield: Hardline

This! That's actually one of my biggest gripes with a lot of games (like RO2 or ARMA for instance) that claim to be combat simulations. Human beings are actually quite nimble, and it isn't that difficult to raise and sight a rifle quickly and effectively. As arcadey as BFBC2 is, it gets the...

Anyone else ready for a WW2 shooter again?

WW2 Online was a lot of fun when it launched. It definitely had trouble getting off the ground, but a modern version similar to Planetside 2 would be interesting. I'd still rather see a new Day of Defeat though. I want a gritty WWII FPS that isn't a simulation.
  32. V

    Battlefield: Hardline

That's saying a lot since BF4's movement and gunplay are the worst of any FPS I've played in 20 years. If this is even worse than that....yikes.
  33. V

Anyone else ready for a WW2 shooter again?

Bad Company 3 set in WWII would be perfect. Simulations can be fun, but even RO2 is a little too slow paced for my tastes. Something like Day of Defeat, but with modern ADS mechanics, more players, and larger maps is what I want.

    Enemy Front WWII FPS

Battlefield 3 Standard Edition is free till 6/3

Wow the free weekend is really boosting the player base. 59k players on at 7:30am? Meanwhile 26k are on Bf4. Obviously it will calm down after awhile, but dang. I'm one of the few that have kept playing BF3 instead of moving to 4, and I'm used to seeing like 3,000 people online.

Keyboard/Mouse vs. Console controller which do you think is faster

I think people are getting off track and starting to talk about which one they think is "better". To the question of which is faster, the keyboard and mouse any day of the week and twice on Sundays. You can't get an analog stick to turn your character nearly as quickly as you can with a mouse.

Yeah it affects everyone. It's actually coded into the game itself, so it has nothing to do with an individual's network connectivity. Basically, the time it takes for the server to get information from you (about things like: where you are, what you're doing etc...) and relay to everyone else...

    BF4... Should I bother?!?

The movement and gunplay feels very clunky and unresponsive. I believe they were going for a more "realistic" feel, but it just ended up feeling bad. The animations are also really stiff and clunky. Everything about the game just looks and feels like it was rushed...and not by a few weeks in...
