Is text good on a 22inch widescreen ?

dpi calculator: http://www.raydreams.com/prog/dpi.aspx The lower the number, the better the text readability. 22" WS are all 90 dpi, 19" non-WS are even better at 86.3 dpi.

Why would anything get stretched when switching from a 16:10 res to another 16:10 res? Anyway, get cat 8.3 for the new settings and also check if your monitor menu has any settings to control AR.

I agree that there is no point at all of partial decode for AVC but for VC-1 this isn't the case. Without partial dxva the microsoft decoder can't play HD DVD VC-1 smoothly even on a 2.8 GHz AMD X2. Cyberlink can but it won't work outside of PDVD (I tried the linked version but it didn't change...

is there any loss when converting a HD movie?

1) download pirated, downscaled, low bitrate version of high quality movie 2) reencode it to an even lower bitrate 3) ... 4) profit! Seriously, a DVD would look much better. And I mean a real DVD, not some Xvid crap.

Temps way to high?

4 of 18 threads on the first page of this forum are people complaining about temps even though they have no real problem to report. IMO this place needs a sticky or some rules to stop this madness.

In general I agree. But if you look at real industry standards and see how they're going then you can't really say they're doing much better. Avsforums is still full of endless threads about problems with Blu-Ray playback. Nvidia and ATI are still bringing out drivers with broken dxva...

You're good for CPU decoding, wrong card for GPU decoding. This means good for progressive content and bad for interlaced content, as you need GPU decoding to get GPU deinterlacing. And there are no "Vista DRM issues", that was just a load of FUD from people who don't understand what HDCP is.

Looks like it can only do MPEG-2. Are you sure that's what you want? And "MPEG-4 simple profile" can't be right, they probably mean that silly "AVC dxva with cheating on deblocking and more CPU usage than CoreAVC" mode.

I've never seen any interlaced avi anywhere. The stuff you get on torrents is always deinterlaced by the guy who encoded it. The true interlaced sources are DVD and digital TV which are all MPEG-2. Good players are Zoom Player and Media Player Classic. A good site to read up on interlacing is...

Pandora is 6 CDs and runs like Killing Moon under Dosbox. Overseer works in WinXP using Win95 compatibility mode. If you get the DVD version you can get the movie sequences running by downloading "Mediamatics DVDExpress". May be a bit hard to find but in that case I think I could help you out...
