Wow.. I have my Q6600 at 3.2 usin my Artic Cooler Pro 7. Idle temps are 42 for hot cores, 38 for cooler cores, and 62-63 hot cores,57-58 other 2 cores running prime 95.
I think I can even go higher because my Voltage is only like 2.26 or something like that.
It's crucial Ballistix 800 PC6400, so I wonder if I can get that high on this ram. What determines the VID on these chips that some have them higher then others?
Well I think that finally did it. I'm running Prime as we speak and my Core temps are maxing at 61/61/57/57. The idle temps are mid to high 30s.
If I want to go up to 3.2, what should I set my voltage to?
Also, I somehow doubt my ram is running at 4-4-4-12, and it should (Crucial Ballistix)
I've been reading that some have raised their voltage and its actually dropped the temps. The DS3L isn't the easiest board to Overclock, the bios is a bit eh.
Should I raise the voltage?
Ok, that's what I had originally thought. i used to build my boxes since I was a kid (8-10) but in the last 5 yrs, Dell got so damn cheap it didn't pay off.
I only went building my quad because I wanted to ensure drive speed, memory capacity, etc. and the Dell Quad was limited to 3.5GB ram on...
So there's supposed to be thermal paste AND the Artic Silver 5? Everything I've read said otherwise.
I may turn the fan speed back to auto, because the whir at 2400rpm is kinda loud whereas at 800 its was near silent.
When I had it on auto before OC it would spin up when doing prime. Now it's running about 2400rpm all the time, is that right?
I just checked, two cores low 40s, 2 cores, high 30s.. so the fan speed deff has something to do with it.
Ok.. I HATE the pushpins.. almost all of them were bent the wrong way and they were a mission to put in (had to use some needlenose pliars)
Anyways, temps are now in mid to high 40s when idle which is a lil better.
The thing that jumps out at me is the AC7 fan is only running at about...
Well when I took the motherboard out of the case, one of the clips for the heatsink did not engage, so I just pushed it in and remounted everything. Unfortunately, the temps are the same.
I'm going to take it apart again, but this time I will unmount the HSF and clean it then layer it with...
What should the temps be?
I'm debating taking apart the Solo to take the board out and re-do the heatsink, etc.
Should I cover the FP7 since I removed the compound from it originally?
So your saying that your supposed to cover the surface of the Artic Cooler 7 with AS5? I thought it was only supposed to be a line across the middle of the cpu?
Using Core Temp
The Core Voltage is 1.2250V, and it reports 2997mhz (333x9)
Using CPU-Z It says Core Voltage is 1.264 and Core Speed for some reason shows 1998, 333x6.
I have not tried reseating the HSF, but I think the only way I'm going to be able to do that is taking the mother...
So my box is a Q6600 on a DS3L using an Artic Cooler Pro 7.
My idle temps at stock speed were in the mid to high 30s. My idle temps running at 3gig (333 cpu) is low 50s. Does that sound about right? It seems a bit too high doesn't it?
I'm also running 4GB (4X1) Crucial Ballistix 800 PC6400...
I am building the following PC:
Q6600 with Artic Silver Pro 7
8600GTS
Gigabyte DS3L
1 500GB WD Drive
External 1TB USB/eSATA enclosure.
I am going to be using a 550V Corsair Power supply.
What tower do you guys recommend for under $100?
Thanks!
krnmastersgt.. thanks for the answers...
How well do you the NF 650 compares to the P35 boards for overclocking? I was thinking of the new rev 2.1 Gigabyte P35 board with the dynamic power, etc.
So the SLI motherboard *should* bring the SLI ribbon cable/bridge then. I'm deciding which motherboard to go with.. if to go with a 650 or a 750 series... Any opinions? Will it make a difference with the 8600GTS cards?
I have 2 8600GTS cards that I am planning on SLI'ing however I do not have an SLI bridge, are all SLI bridges the same?
Also, both cards have the power connector on them, do I need to power them externally or will the standard power be enough?
Does anyone know how many watts both cards...
My question is the main purpose of this box will be video editing HD video (AVHDC) with a hint of video games in the background (hence doing the SLI) so what would be the best given that. (I will be running Vista Ultimate 64bit to use my 4GB of 800 Crucial Ballistix ram.
Appreciate the...
I actually have 2 8600GTS cards in my hands.
If I want to go with one of the NForce boards, what board would you guys recommend? Would you recommend the 750i or the 650i?
Is the performance of the nForce boards on par with the P35 boards? I was also looking at the new gigabyte P35 board...
I have a pair of 8600GTS available to me and was thinking of SLI'ing them. Is it worth it (will I notice a diff using both cards)? If not, was thinking of the Gigabyte DS3L.
I plan on building a box with a Q6600 Quad OCed using Crucial Ballistix 800 RAM.
Any opinions greatly appreciated...
I think I'll have to agree with you on this one man. The AA isn't critical (At least so far in doom3) because you can't see any jaggies in the dark! ;)
It appears to me based on the tests that I've run.. that the P4 is actually to a certain degree the bottleneck. The split from a 1024 Medium to 1024 Ultra (without AA I believe was that value) kinda surprised me.. your taking less than a 10fps swing..that actually speaks volumes about the...
Jeff.. I tried ultra rigtht now.. interesting my drop from High (41fps) to Ultra (38fps) wasn't much. I'm willing to bet the bank that's due to my 2GB of RAM
ok.. on 1024 medium detail, its 43fps... alot better..
for arguements sake, on 1024 high its 40fps.. not too bad of a drop.. and this is all on stock 9800 pro speeds.. no change at all
Something's not right. I ran it on my P4 3.2 with 2 GB Ram and a 9800 Pro Default settings @1280X1024 Medium Detail and my value is only 25fps! what the heck gives?!
